« Topic Start: October 04, 2012, 09:02:24 AM »
A's relief pitcher Pat Neshek's newborn son died less than 24 hours after his birth, just after the A's celebrated their AL West title.

Terribly sad. That's one of my biggest fears. Losing a child.

RIP.

Sorry to hear this.  I've followed Neshek's career for a while, and was happy that the As salvaged his career after injuries derailed it.  He was dominant early on.  Just when he has some success again and has the great joy of a child, to lose his son is devastating.  I wish him and his wife strength.  If the prayers of many can offer some comfort, then let's do our part.

Wow.  This sort of thing puts both our obsession with sports and our own petty day to day problems  into perspective.  I pray for peace and comfort for Neshek and his family.

:( I am so sorry for their loss. I hope they get a lot of help and support from their friends, family, and community. They'll need it. Thoughts and prayers out to them.

I can't bear to think too hard on this. Neshek is a great person and I wish him strength.

Neshek pitched last night and was effective.  Wife was in the stands.  The team wore GJN patches for Gehrig.  When Neshek came off the mound, he gave a pat to the patch.  Johnny Gomes went over to him on the bench after the inning and gave him an attaboy slap on the leg.  It looked like it was important to him for him to be there.
