Sooo . . . B-Rob had substantially better plate discipline and more power (ISO).

In all honesty, I'd take a Kobernus over a B-Rob in the sense that he sacrifices power for speed. Either way, B-Rob was a hell of a second baseman and it'd be awesome if we got a player like him (I'm talking about a player how gets on base, steals, and can hit for the gap)

Considering Roberts is out with Frerotte's syndrome, so would I.

Give him two weeks at Syracuse and then call him up. Nady and Derosa are like having twin Stairs-masters.

I am so glad I wasn't drinking anything or my screen and all my surrounding area would have been covered in liquid.

Three more steals tonight to put him at 22 for the season.

Looks like 50 may be in his grasp.

In 36 games with Harrisburg this season, Jeff Kobernus has a healthy .316 batting average and 24 stolen bases. Last year in Potomac, he played in 124 games and hit .282 with 53 stolen bases. He was the 50th overall pick in the 2009 draft. Baseball America rates him as the 21st best prospect in the Nats system.  Clearly, I think he's better than that.  Let's hope he continues this rapid progression.

Bigger frame than I expected with really good speed and a very good arm for second base.

Definitely see him in the majors within a couple years... if not with the Nats, definitely with another club.

Jeff Kobernus, 2B, Washington Nationals
Current Level: AA
2012 Top 15 Prospects Ranking: 15th
Current Value: Sleeper

Like Hoes, Kobernus could develop into a solid bench player but he also has a chance to grind out some regular playing time if he continues to develop. He has just 11 extra base hits in 62 games but he has 32 steals on the year and nabbed 53 in 2011. Kobernus, 24, needs to do a better job of getting on base and has taken just 16 walks in 62 games (and walked just 21 times in 124 games in ’11). With Danny Espinosa and Steve Lombardozzi already lined up at the keystone in Washington, Kobernus may end up as trade bait.

Welcome back.  Curious why the Nats did not work a deal with the Tigers to let them keep him.

Report: Tigers send Kobernus back to Nationals

The Tigers’ search for a right-handed hitting fourth outfielder just whittled down to the point that Matt Tuiasosopo’s best competition probably isn’t in this camp.

On the same day manager Jim Leyland all but ruled out Avisail Garcia winning a spot on the Opening Day roster, the Tigers returned Rule 5 pick Jeff Kobernus to the Nationals, opting not to keep him on the 25-man roster.

Amanda Comak of the Washington Times first reported that Kobernus will be back in Nationals camp on Sunday. The Tigers confirmed it after the game.

For those who have forgotten the rules of the Rule 5 draft, teams must either keep their selections on the 25-man roster for the entire season (save for some leeway for DL time), work out a trade to keep him, or offer him back to his old club for $25,000, or half what they paid to select the player back in December.

Kobernus looked like he had a great chance to make the team two weeks ago, getting off to a torrid start at the plate. Since then, his batting average has plummeted, and his playing time in turn. His camp ends up at 11-for-50 (.220) with two triples, no homers, three RBIs, five walks and seven strikeouts.

Sucks for Kobernus that he didn't stick with Detroit.  There probably isn't much of a future for him in DC.  Hopefully he has a good year in the minors and another team either trades for him or picks him up next year.

Interesting that Detroit gave him a long look at the OF, too.  Sort of a Danny Worth role.  maybe his future is as a Willie Bloomquist type.

I would put him in the Pete Orr category.

EDIT: I take it back. He's more like Alex Sanchez

yabut  Sanchez never played infield, which is why I went for Bloomquist.  At his peak, Bloomquist could be ineffective at both the infield and the outfield (and make the USA roster in the WBC).  I can see the offense comparison to Sanchez, but I'm not sure Kobernus would turn in  as many .300+ BA years.   Bloomquist also was a pretty consistent steal guy, too, depending only on playing time.  Not Sanchez, but a consistent steal every 15 - 20 PAs. Kobernus's rate is better in the minors, but I'm not sure that translates to the majors.
