Rick Bayless's "one plate at at time" will return for season 8, they film in baja later this year!  His book of the same name is a really good guide to Mexican cuisine.

what channel is that on?

In honor of Wisconsin, I brought this to the SB party yesterday, it was very very good:

I used brats I bought at Giant that came from some German sausage maker in Maryland.

The local hydroponic gear store has a watermelon plant growing under the lights in the window...those suckers will be 20 pounds any day now.  Of course, they are probably ten times that size in Astoria or Chicago.

It must ship from somewhere well, because Safeway had a big display of it this week.

Sure, South America.  No wonder we consume too much fossil fuel.

Between Chile, Australia, South Africa and more local markets, almost everything is always in season. If you really want to gripe about fossil fuel have some Fiji Water, or Evian. Then again I'm in no position to nag given my love of beer (even local stuff often imports hops)

The trend is towards eating more local.  Quality, freshness, access to varietals not bred solely for their ability to be shipped (see - tomatoes)

A buddy of mine is investing in a freeze drying process for Argentinian fruit and vegetables to make them easier to ship.  Apparently, this sort of stuff can be added to sauces (reconsitute) and to cereal and the like.  I think more of his business goes to Asia now.

I'm trying to grow naga jolokias again this year.  Last year's attempt was a bust, so I'm having another go at it with new seeds, different soil, and better light.

Take raman noodles to work. I'd rather eat China's industrial waste, then whatever that crap is in a vending machine.

Surprisingly, the "Bowl Noodles" (no "of") I just ate is made in the good ol' US of A.
