That's for Clark Griffith. For Mickey Vernon. For Eddie Brinkman. For Bucky and Rice and Walter and Cecil Travis (best player never to get a single vote for HoF) and everyone who saw Short take the team to Texas and insisted that Washington really is a baseball town.

YOW!!!!!!!!!!!

...on the exact 79th anniversary of Game 5 of the 1933 World Series...until today, the last post-season MLB match involving a Washington team.

Such a great comeback.  They battled so hard to keep it close.  Getting out of that bases loaded no outs jam was to me the biggest moment.

Great performance by some of the guys. Suzuki was great as usual. Some clutch pitching and defense as well.

I wanted to hold my tongue until the game was over, but I honestly think this has been the best game of the post-season so far.

Both WC play-ins turned into one-sided battles in the end.  Game 1 of the Reds-Giants became a Reds crapping on the Giants fest.  First game for Detroit was a pitching battle and Verlander was Verlander.  Game 2 for Detroit was the closest to this one, but it was more A's meltdown against Cabrera then exciting.

This game had two starters who had two different game flows.  Gio was wild for lack of a better word, but still only gave up two runs over five innings.  Wainwright had the K machine going with that nasty curve, but he wasn't super sharp and exited before completing the sixth.  The defense for the Nats was spectacular for the bullpen, and the Cards couldn't keep the Nats off the bases, but still were able to keep it very close.

Then it was the rookie's time.  T-Mo going Oppo droppo (TM) to bloop in two runs.  Finally, Storen comes in and shows why he is an elite closer to shut the door.  Nats pull a win from the house of horrors out in St. Louis and set it up for Zimmermann tomorrow.  Start off the postseason on the right foot.  Show that the Nats aren't a "fluke" like some think they are.  These Nats are battle tested and are here to contend.

LET'S GET 'EM AGAIN TOMORROW!

Got to agree. Gio's saved start, outstanding defense, rookie saving the day, getting out of a bases loaded no out situation twice... once unscathed!!

This was down to the wire. Very tense.
