Top 5 Desert Island Albums:

The Legend of Johnny Cash -  It's Cash, say no more.

TOOL: Lateralus - My favorite band, incredible album.

Guns and Roses: Appetite For Destruction - Perhaps the greatest rock album of all time.

Color of Money Soundtrack - Smooth, cool, tunes for the poolhall junkie.  Werewolf of London!

Nine Inch Nails: Further Down the Spiral - For when I am depressed about being stranded on a desert island.

An eclectic mix from NOTLD.  I didn't expect to see Johnny Cash and Nine Inch Nails on the same list from anybody.

Interesting enough, Cash did a cover of the NIN song "Hurt" a little after his wife June died.  Its one of those rare instances where the remake was better than the original.  Cash had such pain and sorrow in his voice during the song, it was actually very beautiful but sad.

Cash also did a cover of Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage."

Guns & Roses' album of old punk covers, "The Spaghetti Incident," is just awesome...especially the cover of the Dead Boys "Ain't it Fun"

And the funny thing is I was in a Dixieland jazz band!

Although I've pretty much abandoned FM radio for the expansive choices available on XM, the one show I still listen to is AMU's "Hot Jazz Saturday Night".  I have no knowledge about the musicians, but I love the sound.

Fascinating show; I miss him when we play Saturday nights!

When we were looking to buy a house when my daughter was 4, she wanted a pink house.  So I played Mellencamp's "Pink Houses" on the CD for her.  Ever since, even now that she's 16, we still sing that song to each other.  She calls it "our song," so there will never be a better one for me.

You know, I'm a country fan, but I don't like Johnny Cash's music. It's alright, but I wouldn't choose it over any of my favorites like Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley (well, most of the modern-contempory country).
It's actually kinda funny...a lot of my interest in country comes from the fact that almost every song has either a story, a moral, or relates to me. I find myself in A LOT of the songs I listen to, especially the ones about girls and love...I guess that's why I like it so much.

Plus, Kenny Chesney's songs are GREAT for the summertime.

NoSpin, it sounds like you need to take a trip down to South FL.

I like canciones (spelling?), like the album Linda Rodstadt did at one point. Plus, she has a pitch named after her (the Blue Bayou). I am not making this up.

Hey, nospin, do you have any recommendations on Cuban performers? We've seen the Buena Vista Social Club documentary but do you have favorite singers/musicians?

nice place to visit. would not want to live there. too many fricking exile politicians that have been throwing kastro out for the last 48 years. just bla bla bla...a lot of cubans down there are good at demanding things from the government here. good at playing the system and getting the government to support them.
