These two guys were once considered our saviors. I havent heard much from either. Are they still consider top prospects and what have they been up to?

Depends on what you mean by top prospects..

Top according to Baseball America? Marrero was and might get back there. Remember, he lost a good chunk of last season due to injury but he's done well at Potomac this year. Keep in mind Marrero's bat is much more advanced than his glove at this point. Chris basically has no position because of his defensive deficiencies.

Burgess is what everyone thought he would be. A HR and K machine. He is a much better fielder than Marrero, however. I would rank Destin Hood and Burgess as our top 2 OF prospects right now. Both have a long, long way to go before they get to the bigs though.

As an aside, Jim Callis in his Baseball America chat in mid-June, after the draft, implied that Marrero and Norris are our two highest rated prospects if you exclude Strasburg.  In discussing who'd be the Nats #1 prospect next year, he said:

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/ask-ba/2009/268389.html

"I'll go out on a limb and say that first baseman Chris Marrero and catcher Derek Norris won't be able to hold off Strasburg. The only way Strasburg won't rank atop our Nationals Top 10/30 lists in the offseason is if he doesn't sign with Washington."

ESPN's fantasy baseball page includes a side note on Marrero today:

Marrero remains hot at High-A Potomac, hitting .324 in his last 10 games,
giving him a season line of .301/.370/.480.
Spin:
He seems to have Carolina League pitching well under control, and a promotion to Double-A could be coming shortly.

I found a Q&A with Burgess on www.baseballbeginnings.com

Now www.baseball beginnings.com has a scouting report on Burgess, right at the top of the site, before the interview.
