Dmitri Young and Robert Fick - a former Nats double-whammy. Looking sharp, Meat Hook! (The rest of the story is here.)

Two former Nats signed minor league deals.  Luis Atilano with the Reds and Alberto Gonzalez with the Rangers.

PC - Tokyo Swallows?  I did not know that.

It used to be Yakult Swallows.  I guess Tokyo Swallows is something different.

The name is technically the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, often referred to as the Yakult Swallows or Tokyo Swallows for short.

Hammer to Minnesota.

Should have changed his nickname to Hammered.

Very nice signing by Minny.  Solidifies a corner OF spot, and, relative to the former Young, Kubel and Cuddyer mix, he's probably a defensive upgrade.  In a pinch, if Morneau is down and Mauer is catching, they can play Hammer at 1st (in theory).

Josh Bard gets a non-roster invitation to the Dodgers camp as well.  Could Will Nieves be next?

There's a corporate sponsor - Yomiuri Tokyo Giants, Chiba Lotte Marines, Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, etc.

Oh, I always wondered why they were Ham Fighters.

We should do the same thing, but with the names changing every year. We could have the Houston Ron Paul 2012 Astros

They are not the Ham Fighters!  The company is Nippon Ham.  They are the Nippon Ham Fighters.  They have no hostility to pork products, although it would be cool if they put a farm team in Loudoun and called it the Virginia Ham Fighters.

Smithfield has too much salt for my liking.

Smithfield has too much salt for my liking.

So, the trick is to use meager portions as a flavor accent.  Some recipes call for prosciutto ham - Smithfield is a more modestly priced alternative.

I like Smithfield hams (or, any Virginia hickory smoked ham really) very thinly sliced on a buttermilk biscuit.

Also, to reduce the salt content (I am NOT a fan of overly agressive salt flavors either, as well as looking to reduce sodium overall in my diet) you can soak ham in cold water for a while which removes some of the salt.

Count yourself as blessed. It seems that you have been spared the agony of remembering that player. I, unfortunately, have not.
