If you look at Jordan's clutch splits / playoff splits throughout his career, they're actually pretty similar to his regular season ones... e.g., he has more PPG in the postseason but it's because he played more minutes.  That's not to say that clutch might not exist in sports like basketball--for example, a recent study found a small bug significant difference in FT% in clutch situations (about 2%).  But in professional baseball, specifically, as distinguished from, say, college or amateur baseball, there has been no significant clutch split observed, nor has a statistically significant, predictive "clutch hitting skill" been found.

Yeah, I believe what you're saying. Good explanation, btw. Just sort of crazy to think how overrated the world 'clutch' is, supposing you're correct.

Long fly ball and the way he called it was going to be 5 rows deep.

Werth is starting to seriously throw crap after ending innings.  Which is often.

'Kay Lannan, our great infield defense doesn't mean crap if you keep giving up line drives, so... try not to do that?

One person here has a clue, the other doesn't. There's no way Werth is happy dogging it on a team on the edge of contention where he could be the hero.

Werth should try to bunt for a hit. Can't be any worse.

I predict that the first time the Nats reach the playoffs will be the first time Teddy wins a race.

Also, if Lannan makes it through six I will be surprised (and pleased).
