Cespedes with a laser shot HR over the left field wall. Dude has some scary power.

The question with him is Willy Mo power (when he made contact, he could make them fly) or Ryan braun power (ie power as part of an all around good hitter)

Looks more Willy Mo, but he's got some speed and can play center so he's got some added value there.

Billy Beane must have relied on some great scouting for this one.  he probably has old bird dogs all over Cuba, going back to some old friends in the game.  I think he liked the spunk Cespedes showed as well as the cut of his jib.

Certainly not the same scouts Rizzo sent to Cuba to watch Maya pitch.

FYI, Ron Washington just intentionally walked Pablo Sandoval in the 7th inning of the Texas-SF game.  Maybe this is the new way, intentionally walking batters in spring training games?

...and it didn't work.  He was trying to set up the DP but the next batter got a fielders choice and the runner at 3rd scored.

And what happened to Koji Uehara?  He has a 12.27 ERA this spring, following not being very good when the Rangers traded for him last season...and he just gave up a homerun in the Rangers-Giants game...

Let's have a sentence finishing contest.

If Washington really wanted to set up the DP, . . .

Remember Juan Nicasio, the Rockies pitcher who suffered a broken neck in 2011 after taking a line drive from Ian Desmond off the side of head?  He's had a dominating spring training so far - 3.09 - 21/5 K/BB in 21 1/3 so far this spring with a fastball topping out at 97.

you have to wonder if the Yankees watched his second half last year before trading their top prospect for him.

I'll assume they gave him a physical.

Meanwhile, I was going to watch the Rays-Red Sox on MLB Network, but the Red Sox do not have one starter playing, and only Kelly Shoppach, Darnell McDonald, and one of Jason Repko or Pedro Ciriaco likely to make the team.

The Rockies named Jamie Moyer - yes, 49-year-old Jamie Moyer - as their #2 starter.  If he wins a game, he'll be oldest pitcher to ever earn a W.

Something very weird is happening in Los Angeles right now!

The Angels are at home against the Dodgers and are leading 12-3 in the 9th.  The Dodgers half of the inning just finished and they've agreed to play the bottom of the 9th so the home team is coming to bat with a lead in the bottom of the 9th inning.

From ESPN: "Both teams mutually agreed that all three of these games will go a full nine innings, even if the home team is leading after 8 1/2."  Weird.
