I'm just amazed that rizzo is confident in 1 year of a 1b that has a weak first half when we could sign a very good 1b for a good amount of years. What are our 1b options for next year?

also younger, never had injury problems, marketable as one of the game's top star players, fills a need (zimmerman, espinosa, rendon, fielder)........the list goes on.

The one that's scary about the Nats plan is, if any of these young kids fail, we're freaked with no back-up plan.

Yup. And those 2013 options don't excite me.

2013?

In-house: Morse, Marrero, Moore

Not exactly lighting the world on fire.

who isn't comfortable with Morse at 1B?   I wonder if Rendon could be a candidate to play the OF?

CBS Sports reports that according to a @Nationals source, there's a "95 percent Bryce Harper makes team out of spring training."

Funny how this 'news' *cough* PR *cough* drops the day after the Nats fail in FA.

Nats trying to distract the fan base from once again failing to accomplish stated goals of off season. Which makes this what? The second? Third time? Rizzo has failed to accomplish his goal?

and lol @ the nats leaking harper potentially starting the year with the big league club.  just a case of trying to goodwill the fan base after such a disappointing showing (if you can call it that) during the winter meetings.

that source is probably Davey Johnson.

You know, adding Harper to our lineup could have as much of an impact as adding a lot of other FAs.  It still doesn't solve our lead-off problem.  I'm guessing they are looking at starting the year with Desmond and bringing up Lombo if he falters.

We'll see.

Times I saw him play, he got ate up by left handers with any sort of off-speed.

I imagine at the MLB level, they'll try and exploit that even more.

FWIW in the AFL he hit .333/.379/.630 vs. LHP versus .333/.408/.636 against RHP.

So far, he seems to be able to adapt to everything they throw at him.

Sign Fielder, bring up Harper in June to play LF and trade Morse while his value is high and something else for a CF.  Hopefully, Rendon can make the switch to 2B and let Danny switch to SS.

Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal
High-ranking #Marlins official says team is not and will not be on Prince. Prince can't drive Latin market like Pujols could have.

Thank you God.

No thanks on Fielder. He's already a defensive liability and a health concern with his weight. On top of that, Morse should be our first baseman, not left fielder. Harper in LF and then go get a real center fielder, not Werth.

"Defensive liability" as compared to Morse?

"Health Concern with his weight" yet he's a vegan and has played heavy his whole life?

Fielder  >>>>>>  Morse  -  Stop with the nonsense.

The weight is a concern, playing it off like it's not is nonsense.

Still, Fielder is better than Morse certainly, and I'd totally love to have him.

But I'm not uncomfortable with Morse at 1st base at all.

How? When has his health/weight gotten in the way of his play?
