I can't see the MLB awarding an all-star game to a team/owner that just sold the team away.  No way MLB is happy with that deal...

The last time he did it MLB gave him a new team, so don't count on it.

Fool MLB once, shame on them.  Fool MLB twice, shame on you.  If Miami doesn't flog him and ride him out of town on a flaming pike, he may be forced to sell the team.

They won't give him an ASG, this is already a huge media problem for MLB.

Additionally other owners will likely be pissed he's diving in and screwing up free agent and arbitration markets and then just dumping players the next year.

No. The Marlins were all but promised the 2015 ASG if they got their new ground up and running. Nats are looking at 2017 at the earliest.

This.

As horrible as it was for the Nats to be owned by MLB for those first couple of years, it had one positive - it made sure Loria wasn't still the owner by the time we got the team.  Can you imagine if MLB had allowed Loria to move the Expos directly to DC, with him still as the owner???  What's happening in Miami now could be happening to us.   :phew:

We already had this:

according to a league source familiar with commissioner Bud Selig's thinking, the Nationals are currently the frontrunners to host the game over the Marlins.

So this certainly won't help.  The announcement comes in the summer and there is NO CHANCE that MLB will put its marquee event in that stadium with the uncertainty of a government investigation hovering over it.

I still fail to understand why or how all these parks that opened after 2008 are hosting and we aren't. crap, New York got the last hoorah of Old Yankee Stadium AND Citi Field post Nats Park. When DC was without baseball for four decades and last hosted going on a half century before.

Here's hoping our resurgence and playoff appearance, coupled with national media over Harper and Strasburg and the Marlins rape by Loria sees us awarded this one, but I doubt it.

I believe that the All-Star game is tied to the development of the surrounding area.

Last hosted ASG in 1988; not getting it as long as one Peter Edward Rose is still alive and self-promoting.

Not only that, but I wouldn't want the AS game here until that happens. In a couple of years, a whole lot more will be complete based upon current plans. But it we don't want the AS game here with a hole in the ground on one side of half street and some make shift outdoor bar on the other.

The all star games now carry with them outside exhibits (games - something like the All Star Experience).  I'd imagine that could easily take over at least one of the big lots between M and the stadium.

Paging JD - has there been any construction activity along Half Street since the season ended?  Anything going into the hole on the east side or on the fairgrounds yet?

Here's an article highlighting some development in the ballpark district.

I'm not sure what's funnier - that all of the crap being built there has WHITEY blasted all over it or that the audience for the article you linked to has more to do with the Pet Shop Boys and Kneel-and-Bobbin than the suburban MLB crowd.

I ride through there during interval training at least two times a week and it looks like there's been moderate progress on the shops across from the Potbelly/failed condo apartment building and the NYC (:lmao:) trapeze school.  If someone, anyone, could explain to me how that place stays in business I'd really appreciate it.  The big hole across from the CF gates is still a big hole and there's been little to nothing done to the lofts building over by the Yards parking lot.

It appears to me we need to apply the same patience to the neighborhood that we had to apply to the team that plays there!

At this point the most you can hope for is that sequestration doesn't happen and that the banks (and developers) get desperate and start giving out crazy loans to anyone with a pulse again.

Do you honestly think they'll do anything with the big pit on Half Street within the next 3 years?
