I'm only in my 4th year of following baseball, and I deliberately chose a team who were crape, but for the first time ever I appear to be following a team who might actually win something, and I don't know how to handle it!

You're exactly the same as me, I knew nothing about the team when I chose them about 4 years back, now I eat sleep and breathe nats baseball from all the way over the opposite side of the world

Jordan for me, I always pick the less flashy guys for some reason

Have to agree, Detwiler is a close second. Really stepped up after Wang's ad performance.

I believe bermygreen is from the UK.  I was going to say the word that apparently people in Australia call people from the UK but I wasn't sure how much of an insult it actually was (only know if from the Top Gear UK vs Top Gear Australia episode  )

If it wasn't for Australia, England would still be full of criminals.  But let's not start on the nationalism, the USA doesn't have a leg to stand on.  :-)

If the Nats lose their final 64 games, they'll finish with the same record they had in 2008.

I was bored this afternoon, and with OC's comparisons to past Nats teams W-L records, I put together a spreadsheet comparing the three DC teams that made the WS and the three best teams from Montreal with this one.  These are all through 98 games, though a couple of teams had ties so the numbers don't necessarily add up to 98 and in a couple of weeks the 1994 Expos will stop playing games so the GB column is a little much.  The 1994 Expos are also in the middle of a ridiculous 20-3 stretch they closed out the season with.

Year   W   L   win %
1933   62   35   .639
1925   62   36   .633
1994   61   37   .622
2012   59   39   .602
1924   54   42   .563
1979   55   43   .561
1993   51   46   .526

Great game by Jackson.  Loved his running the bases as well.  Lombo's triple was key - he keeps on keeping on.  LaRoche with another big homer.  And, of course, at the end of a one-sided game, we get H-Rod who, if nothing else, is consistent. :asplode:

I am not sure everyone knows the significance of this. The Nats have never been here previously. We eclippsed our previous number of games above .500 achieved in 2005 and last Wednesday night of nineteen wins above.

Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 59th win, each season:

2012 - 26th July (98th match of season)
2005 - 9th August (112th match)
2011 - 18th August (122nd match)
2007 - 1st September (136th match)
2006 - 3rd September (136th match)
2010 - 5th September (137th match)
2008 - 23rd September (157th match - final win of season)*
2009 - 4th October (162nd match - final win of season)

*They would finish 59-102; in 2008, one rained-out late-September home match vs the Marlins was not re-scheduled

---

THIS DAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: Tuesday 26th July 2005 saw the Nats drop the opener of a series at Atlanta, 3-2 in 10 innings - Luis Ayala walked Andruw Jones with the bases loaded to force in the winning run...record now 55-45...http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250726115

---

According to ESPN radio (and I think Charlie and Dave's post-match show too) this is the first time the combined Expos/Nats franchise has been 20 wins over .500 since the finale of the 1994 Expos - The Champion That Never Was, erased by the strike.

Is it just me, or is it scary to think we won as many games now, in freaking July, than we did all of two straight years? That's just hard to believe.

Why? The team was crap in those years and we had a GM that has admitted to not trying to win at the MLB level.

Saw her just as I was turning off the TV to listen to Charlie and Dave. Stepped back and watched for a minute.
