Disagree. Sometimes you have to know when to live to fight tomorrow.

The fight was still up for grabs up until he took out Jackson in favor of Gorzelanny.

It's baseball.  Bad games happen.  Every team has them even against bad teams.

Gorz should never relieve, or Davey should be able to see into the future?

Must be how some teams felt on those rare games the Nats put up 8+ runs back in the dark days

How about letting your inning eating starter, you know, eat innings?

That's a thought that occurred to me after I wrote my post.

But I still don't believe that any of us can manage a baseball season like Davey can.

How about letting your inning eating starter, you know, eat innings?

You know, I'm really with PC and SF on this.  Considering how this is THE WORST LOSS IN freakING FRANCHISE HISTORY, it's definitely worth firing a manager with 1200 wins and a WS title over pulling his starter in a game in mid-April.  Completely measured reaction.

I might have let EJax go one more inning since he wasn't due up till the bottom of the seventh, but really, Gorzo had three full days rest.  He's got to come in and get guys out and do his job as the mop-up guy.  Davey's had a bit of a quick hook, but I think that's partially cos it's mid-April.  He's going to need innings and pitches out of these guys later in the season and hopefully the post-season - saving an inning here and there and turning to the bullpen, which is a team strength isn't stupid.

I'm agreeing with both of these but like DPM said (kind of), "crap happens."

Gorzo isn't great, but if he really is as awful as last night, it's Rizzo's fault for putting him on the roster. Pitchers ocassionily blow up and these things happen - over 162 games, I'm sure we'll get a melt down or two in our favor.

It's kind of funny how much collective effort is expended to counter the rantings of the forum's best known doomsayer.

Got to say i was surprised at the move to Gorzo, too.   Jackson I think only had 77 pitches at that point, and, with an off day monday, the entire rotation can get an extra days rest. he can easily cruise through another inning.   To double switch that early in the game of course burns a bench option.  As it turns out, that might have been useful when Werth needed to be pulled the next inning.  today they are saying the werth move was due to muscle tightness and not just to rest him.

89 sounds right.  i think i noticed 77 or 79 or about that the inning before, when they were 4 or 5 batters away from his slot, and guessed he could go two innings if his spot in the order did not come up or if it were a bunting situation.  then I recall Ankeil making the last or next to last out and the insertion of Nady in the pitchers spot and Gorzo for Ankiel.

He should have left Jackson in, but it takes more than one bad game for me to crucify someone.

Agreed.  I didn't like his decision, but it's not like he's been making a slew of bad ones this season.  He's not Acta.

Am I the only one who doesn't think it was a bad decision? If you're afraid to put Gorzo in against the Astros (who should compete for the number 1 pick), why even have him on the team?

I see what you mean, but Jackson was doing fine at that point so why take him out so soon?

Most people are questioning the timing of the move. Only a couple loud maroons were mad that Davey played someone that Rizzo has on the roster at the end of an already-won series (besides, Gorz hadn't allowed a run until last night).

Really, his management of the starters is the only thing I have disagreed with so far and even with that I would like to wait a few more weeks before I make any definitive statements about it (though the trend is disheartening at this point).  Overall, I think he has been doing a good job as manager.
