That's everywhere ... particularly if you are on a budget.
It's certainly worse here than in all but a handful of other markets, and NoVa is worse than DC or Maryland.
I have a really sweet life right now on the upper floors of an Arlington high-rise, sharing a 2BR apartment with a roommate. We each pay less than we would for a 1BR, the view is spectacular, the metro is nearby, and the living room is spacious.
But I'm in this area for the long haul, I'll probably get engaged soon, and I know that long-term buying makes much more financial sense. Unfortunately, that means my quality of life will decline. Further, my girlfriend and I both have different preferences about what to compromise on, so that will be frustrating to deal with.
