I just pity the fool who says BA is crud.

;)

I only drop wOBA references to draw laughs from half the board and to make a point to the other half.

How could anyone have a problem with a stat as intuitive as

looks like context neutral run expectancy increase per plate appearance for each type of positive plate outcome, excluding intentional walks.

I just want to know why reaching base on an error is better than a single and why being hit by a pitch is better than a regular walk

I can see that an HBP might have a higher run expectancy than a non-intentional BB.  While sometimes guys are occasionally intentionally hit, it is probably more rare than a guy gets pitched to carefully and walked. There is more of an element of strategy in walks than in HBPs, so the outcomes might be slightly worse.  As for 1Bs v. reached base on error, with an error there is maybe a greater chance of being awarded or taking an extra base.   That's just a guess. I'm sure Tango has the right answer on his blog.

Pretty cool that Espinosa has had a big part in the past two wins. Would love if he finally turns into the player we thought he'd be the beginning of last season, but I can't help but be scared this is one of those "Even a stopped clock is right twice a day" moments.

If he does pull out of it and be consistent though, a lot of us here have some crow to eat, especially me.

He's 5 for his last 15 with 2 bolts. Looks like he's working out of his funk.

Still not letting him off the hook.

Fool me once, shame on me

Fool me twice, shame on you

Fool me three times, well....then im a Fool.

Danny needs to hold this consistency for more then a few games before I get over the constant K's

Need this guy to hit.  Hopefully he's back to what he was at the beginning of last year.

The two rookies from last year that they were counting on - one is now gone for the year and the other has been in a miserable slump to start the year.

Its great he notched 2 bombs and 3 hits (4?). Definitely need him to start hitting if Davey's going to keep tossing him out there.

Espinosa has the second highest swinging strike rate in the majors at 15.6%

The only one higher? Josh Hamilton at 18.1%

Hmmm. Can Danny hit anywhere except Cincy? Or is does he only have a problem at Nats Park?

Bob said tonight he's hitting around .280 in his last 13, going to be real interesting when Morse comes back.

Kilgore had a related stat like that too in his blog about DE's OPS recently.   But it takes a while for folks to drop their customary complaints.

Quote
Johnson, though, does not want that additional time to come at Danny Espinosa’s expense. After a dreadful start, Espinosa has an .814 OPS and three homers in his last 16 games.
