11-8 needed to get 100 wins now.

But where are those 11 coming from?

We have:
Altanta 3
Dodgers 3
Brewers 4
Phillies 6
Cardinals 3

All of them teams fighting for survival.  Playing with a sense of urgency.   I'm sure we will play every game hard, and every game to win. But there really isn't a sense of urgency.  Winning 100 is not the same motivation as making the playoffs.  Neither is best record, when in many peoples' view that will be a disadvantage.

So if we are going to win 11 games, tell me where they are coming from.

I would say the best we will do is:
of the six with Atlanta and LA: 3 wins
Brewers:  2 of 4
Phillies: 3 of 6
Cardinals: 1  of 3

9 of 19, best.   That's 98 wins, still a great season.

Meh Cardinals and Dodgers are playing like ass right now - and Atlanta looked like ass against Milwaukee

I could see us winning those series ... we've had a penchant for winning series all year long

Anything could happen of course - but I like our chances

Then we're not watching the same team.  This team just wins.  Lately it hasn't really mattered who's been put in front of them.  This team has an edge.  They've beaten the good teams and the bad.  Is it possible they only get 9 wins?  Sure, it's possible, but from what I've seen from this team, it's not likely.

I know I'm really hoping six of those 11 come against the freaktard Philthies.

If the Phillies are eliminated by the time we play them - which is a realistic possibility -  we'll win all six, and then 100 is certainly probable.

I fully expect the Cardinals to have clinched the final wild card spot by the time we play them and for Philadelphia to be eliminated by the time we play them.

Of course, with the amount of spite the Phillies plays the Nationals, I would expect them to play like it's the 7th game of the World Series.

I would expect that only if they could hurt us by winning.  (And by "hurt us" I don't mean keeping us from 100 wins, but knocking us out of the division lead, which is very unlikely).   If they can't I fully expect them to lay down and play dead.

I'll say we finish:

Altanta (1-2)
Dodgers (2-1)
Brewers (2-2)
Phillies (2-4)
Cardinals (2-1)

----------------
Total: 9-10

Which would put as at 98 wins. It's mainly about the Phillies' games. I guessed 2-4 but if the Nats sack up they should take 4 out of 6 and get to 100 games.

I don't think our opponent matters at all - I think the ABFF and PPFF and MBFF and StLCFF are all saying "Damn it, we have to play the NATS. How are we ever going to win those games?"

I think the only thing that matters is what the Reds do.  I think once we've got the #1 seed wrapped up, we'll ease off the gas and slide in at 98-99 wins.

Not going to wrap up the #1 seed any time soon, will probably go to last game of the season for that.

I'm questioning whether they really wants the number 1 seed.   Not to say they would tank games, or not play hard, but subconsciously they may feel that they are in better shape with the two seed - (1) they know who they are going to play, as opposed to having to wait to see who wins the wild card game (2) they might prefer to play the Giants than either Atlanta or the Cards.

There's no way they'd prefer to travel cross-country to start the playoffs on the road against the Giants set pitching.

I would add the Phillies too, I don't think they'd want to ease up if they still have a shot.  Also, they shouldn't make life easy for St. Louis either.  The only answer is to go all out until everything is settled.

They're playing like they want the #1 seed.  They want to play the best they can.  I'll take a matchup vs. a team that had to play an extra high stress game.

I agree but I'd love the Nats to treat 100 wins as a benchmark needed to be met.  that would go a long way toward repairing the bad karma from 2009-2010.

I'd rather they skip starters to try to set up the rotation heading into the playoffs

They can't get away with that if the game is important to the opponent.  For example if the Phillies are still fighting for a wild card spot,  we can't let up, at least not blatantly, because that would compromise the integrity of the race.

Congrats!

But if you spend your honeymoon watching the Nats, I'll have blue junkpunch you.

I don't know if there have been any studies published on this, but in my mind no team that ever ran away with their division ever won a playoff game. Yes I'm exaggerating but there is something to be said about playing meaningful games all the way into October.

I'll be honest. I'd rather drop a game this weekend than sweep the Braves.
