He's come a long way from Ean to KIng. Now if Espi can turn it around the Nats will be set at middle IF for the next decade.

Offensively, he's more or less the same hitter he was in 2010 except he has 27 year  old power and not 25 year old.  He's  a case where reality has finally caught up with the projections for the body type.  The other thing that is saving him is he's 1.5 - 2.0 WAR better on defense.  he's gone from stone hands, scatter arm. botch the easy play, throw the ball away to a much more steady, better decision-maker with a strong and reasonably accurate arm.  Having LaRoche at first helps, too, but defense at first doesn't matter. :stir:

Am I the only one who though Davey sounded a little chocked up in the post game talking about Desmond not being able to play?

Desmond made the team this year, it's getting to be a while since Zimmm was there, he'll probably return but he's certainly not on the path to being a perennial all-star.

Desmond made the team in part because we're winning- a decent Zimm first half and he would have been there, likewise, if Desmond put up the same numbers on a team enroute to 100 losses, I doubt he makes it

Yeah, that's how it works, you have a good first half and you get voted in or selected, it's been three years now that Zimmm has been shut out and six out of seven years for his career.

Not only that, he was selected by the manager because the manager likes him and his ability. Don't get me wrong, he most deffinitely deserves to be there, but let's not go over board. A healthy Zimmy is one of the 3 best 3rd basemen in MLB.

If you play on a winning team, otherwise you're just as likely to play well and get passed over

How is that relevant to the discussion of Zimmm v. Desmond when they both play on the same team?

Desmond says he's pulling out for the good of the team, didn't want to have to sit out 3-4 weeks down the road.  He's got to be the most popular guy in the clubhouse right now.

Totally disagree.

It's not that I don't think he's a great player, because he is, I just don't see him beating out David Wright now that we have multiple players going to the ASG.

That would be sad. Let's hope next year he puts it all together, plays a whole season, and the team's burgeoning popularity pushes him ahead.

And if David Wright is still hitting over 300 and the Mets aren't a total disaster next season?  My point is he's a very talented player but he's not going to win in a popularity contest with the Noo York Mess third baseman.

I know this might be unpopular here but David Wright > Ryan Zimmerman.

That is mind blowing when you think about it. Seven years he was eligible. Six he didn't make it. This is a totally different thread, so post replies to some old RZ thread. But since I'm replying to your post, I will ask here: Does Zimmerman even have a shot at making the HOF if it continues as is? He seemed like a lock to be the first Nat. But I don't buy, trivial as the ASG is, a guy that makes it only once or twice in his career has a shot in hell at the HOF. Obviously if we make post season frequently, that changes things. But if it continues as is, no post season, one more ASG the next 7 years, no postseason heroics, has anyone ever been elected on so little?

But yeah, that 6 out of 7 is mind blowing.
