No doubt, I loved the guy in Cleveland and it seems like the Indians are about to "reboot" and no longer need his services.

I can see where you are coming from.  Choo does not give you what ALR gives you in terms of power.  I'm projecting Harper to have a "middle of the order" bat next year, and with Desi behind him, I don't think he sees just junk.

However, I have a limit on how hard I'd chase ALR.  2 years plus an option, AAV of $14 MM over the first two.  Something like $13MM - $13MM - option of $13MM with a $2MM buy out.  I'm not sure that gets the deal done.  Prices him as a 3 WAR player, which is a level he had never hit until last year.

Kubel might give you the power and could bat down at 5th or so.  He's consistently bad defensively (Choo's 2012 might be an aberration), but should be cheaper.

Personally I'd be fine with Choo in the two hole or batting 6th. He's more than just a doubles hitter and is generally good for 15-20 homeruns a season. I think he slots better near the top of the lineup though and Harper should eventually be number 3.

4)   Extend Jordan Zimmerman (5 years, 35 million)
No brainer.

I'm not sure that's the price anymore

I still really like the idea of going after Victorino or Pagan.  I think either could be had for 2 years plus a team option - maybe a vesting option of some sort.

They can play an outfield spot this year and then move to a bench role if and when Goodwin or someone else is ready to take over.  Would improve the defense by leaps and bounds and neither would necessarily replace Werth as the leadoff hitter -

Werth - RF
Harper - CF
Zim - 3B
LaRoche - 1B
Desmond - SS
Victorino/Pagan - LF
Espinosa - 2B
Suzuki/Ramos - C

or if you keep Morse and let LaRoche walk -

Werth - RF
Harper - CF
Zim - 3B
Morse - 1B
Victorino/Pagan - LF
Desmond - SS
Espinosa - 2B
Suzuki/Ramos - C

You lose a little power but the defense is much improved.

Kuroda is open to signing another one-year contract. I think he'd be a great #4 here.

he was quoted late in the year that he has never had fun playing baseball.  Basically he hates the game but he plays because he's good at it and rakes in the dough.

You couldn't pay me enough money to make me code in FORTRAN.  I'd take assembly over that.

Nah, I wouldn't take anything over assembly...
