Well, the idea of the mobile version of the site is to make it as minimal as possible, and compatible with older/non-smart phones.  While that's probably mostly a non-issue these days, I'm hesitant to go mucking around with the code.  I'll at least give it a look this winter while I'm doing the forum upgrades.

There's a popular third-party application called Tapatalk that works very well, but the app costs money for users ($2.99).  It's free for the server admin to set up, but I'm not sure how many people would bother paying for such an app vs just using the full version of the site or even the built-in mobile version.
