Yes

Lincoln is leaving the theatres (at least where I live) soon.  Is it worth seeing in the theatres, or is it one that would translate to home watching well?

Yes

As in it's worth seeing and it'd translate well to a home viewing?

If you're watching in HD on a 42" (and possible speaker system), it'll be better than the theater.   You can pause to hit the can and there won't be  some needledick checkin' his cell phone.    As someone mentioned, most of the movie is in a "stage" setting.   There is very little action that would create any sort of "ah" factor.

I also haven't seen Lincoln.  If it's primary a stage setting, how did it get Academy award nominations for Cinematography, Editing, and Sound Mixing?  There usually has to be something to merit that.

You will have a chance to see Lincoln and all of the 9 Best Picture nominations at select AMC Theatres  You have to buy the pass:
http://www.amctheatres.com/programs/best-picture-showcase

Saturday, February 16, Four movies for just $30 (or $7.50 apiece)
Amour
Les Miserables
Argo
Django Unchained

Saturday, February 23, Five movies for just $30 (or $6 apiece)
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Life of Pi in RealD 3D
Lincoln
Silver Linings Playbook
Zero Dark Thirty

The 24-Hour Marathon is Back Too!
Select locations [very few] will offer a 24-hour marathon on Saturday, February 23. All 9 movies for a single $60 ticket. More details to come.

I'm a big fan of the books, and I'm usually not happy about film adaptations of childhood favorites, but I think the movies really did the books justice in this case

It was a good adaptation, no doubt.

I still haven't been able to re-read the books since, though. The hobbits (Rudy and Elijah Wood) kinda ruined the imagery for me.

Saw Life of Pi last week.  Beautiful movie.  Not quite as good as the book, but not as much of a departure as I had feared.

It's very well done ... didn't mean to imply that it isnt'.     I don't know that much about making movies but it can have great "backroom" work, camera angles, lighting, etc. and not necessarily need to be seen on the big screen.    I wouldn't want to see "Around the World in 80 Days" on TV as opposed to the big screen but "Lincoln" will work quite well on TV.

I do have a similar set up to that, I also have projector ability if I wanted to do it that way, which is probably what I'd do.  I think I'll save the money and red box it.

Thanks for the review. I was really worried about what the hell they would do to turn a captivating book into a blockbuster.

I watched Drive on Netflix last night.
Interesting, not what I was expecting. Very little dialogue and not a lot of driving, lot of gore. I'd give it a B.

Don't forget to mention the great 80's soundtrack too...end sarcasm.
