I don't know if I like the pick. I like the video preview - Giolito says he models his game after Justin Verlander, which is 100% the right guy to model your game after. But ... he needs surgery like tomorrow.

Was I the only one who thought that Selig was going to say Lucas Sims instead of Lucas Giolito? wow I'm stunned but thrilled

Was I the only one that thought the universe was going to end before Selig completed the sentence?

I like his potential obviously - and if he had a clean bill of history - he'd be a top 5 pick ... but the injury risk is a big concern.

I think Bundy was the best talent in the draft last year, but that's just my opinion, and I haven't seen 90% of these guys so I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Kevin Goldstein ‏@Kevin_Goldstein

The Nationals don't take Giolito without talking to his camp first to gauge the signability. He'll sign.

Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst

#Nationals taking a risk on Giolito. But Mike Rizzo always takes a guy No. 1 with a chance to be a star. That's how it's done, folks.

I know they got flack for Storen being a signability pick, but otherwise Rizzo has gone BPA period for several years with his early round picks. If you do this over a long enough period, you have to hit more than you miss, right?

lol, I thought that super-volcano in yellowstone was gonna erupt after 200,000 years of being dormant before he started the name of the player.

Insanely more upside. RT @VickKumar1: @Kevin_Goldstein is giolito a much bigger risk than stilson was last year?

and then when its announced everyone nages that he has to miss a year or so, while complaining about other teams picks climbing through the minor ranks.  just saying.

#Nationals only have $4.4 mil budget. Will be interesting what Giolito signs for. Huge upside, but I'd hate to lose a 1st-rd pick. #mlbdraft

No way they took him without looking at the medicals from Dr. Yocum who Giolito went to and who performed TJ on Stras & ZimNN.

I love the pick and the risk.

The chance to be in the same rotation as Stephen Strasburg and on the same team as Bryce Harper has'd to account for some sort of discount.

i really don't care who we get later.  they can be the most signable seniors even.  as long as we can sign gio #2, i'll be ecstatic.

i was thinking the same thing.  you would think giolito would jump at the chance to pitch with strasburg
