Maybe they're tired of missing wildly every time they try?

Come on now... you're propping up post you know are extreme to make it seem as if a majority of people really feel that way. You know that's not the case.

I think it makes sense to go after a guy like Shields.  He has a club option of 9 mil for next year and 12 mil in 2014.  We get a replacement for Stras this year and Jackson next year, plus we'll net 2 mil in 2013 and upgrade the rotation.

There's an additional club option for 2014 I believe. What would they want for Shields?

Is there any chance Laroche and the Nats simply pick up his 2013 mutual option (10 mil)?

you are correct, 12 mil club option for 2014.

Not if LaRoche thinks he can get more than $9 million (10 million - the buyout), then again maybe he wants to chase a ring and thinks this is as good a place as any?

According to @Ken_Rosenthal #Nationals in on Dempster, Liriano & Greinke as well as CA Ramon Hernandez

Oh dear sweet baseball jesus ... if you're there ... please, please let Stanton be tradeable. Please let your servant, Mike Rizzo, open his eyes and give him wisdom and guile to make the trade. Give your precious favored sons, the Lerners, the heart to open their purse strings.

Wow, if they're willing to trade Stanton they must really be throwing in the towel.

I'm going to go ahead and say we don't trade for anybody.

"They currently are using the tandem of Jesus Flores and Jhonatan Solano, and rank 12th in the NL at the position with a .666 OPS. Flores has thrown out only 4 of 37 runners attempting to steal."

yeah ... need an upgrade.

If only stolen bases was on the catcher

Ramos was throwing out a whopping 17% before he went down

  • Now that right there is baseball.
Throwing up the Dempster/Greinke smoke screen so Rizzo can sneak in and steal Ramon Hernandez.  I like it.

Which still happens to be better than what Flores is doing. 8)

An exec of one team talking to the #Cubs said today they're working hard to move Ryan Dempster "by the end of the week."

I'd imagine the haul to get Stanton would be preposterous

Still, does it not delight the imagination?

(Kudos if you know what Movie that's from)

What about Shields?

I'm intrigued by him

I think we get a pitcher (if we can make it work) and a catcher would be sweet

I'd love to get Shields.

Would bolster the rotation for the present and the future.
