Edgar Gonzalez will take the mound for the Diamondbacks on Thursday. The right-hander earned the fourth spot in the rotation after going 5-0 with a 4.70 ERA in spring training.

"(He) pitched under a lot of pressure to win the job that he did, and he deserves to be pitching for us in the four spot," Arizona manager Bob Melvin told the team's Web site.

Nationals right-hander Jason Bergmann will match up with Gonzalez. Bergmann earned a spot in the rotation despite going 0-2 with a 5.03 ERA in 19 2-3 innings during spring training.

Bergmann went 0-2 with a 6.68 ERA in six starts and 23 relief appearances last season. He didn't receive a decision in two starts against Arizona last season, posting a 5.40 ERA over 10 innings. They were his first career appearances against the Diamondbacks.

We should have a chance to win this game considering that Arizona was playing in Colorado 24 hrs ago.  It all depends on how Bergmann pitches.  I'd say there is a 50% chance he gets rocked and a 50% chance he gives up 3 earned runs or less.

We should all be happy to have the game within reach after 5 innings. Hopefully, he makes mechanical adjustments after his last outing.

The expectations should be low for Jason. But, it is only his first start of the year too. This rotation didn't get the extended preparation, so they all may need a couple of rough outings to start. Even if Jay gets a quality start, he should not be declared our best pitcher. It's just way too early.

It terrifies me every time Bergmann takes the mound but I feel good about tonight.  I won't be able to stay in here tonight due to visiting family but I will try and poke in once in awhile if I can.

GO NATS!!!

Why is Bergmann pitching here?  This is the #4 slot.

Given the choice, I'd like to delay him for as long as possible.

It's going to be cold. Who knows what that will do. I'm still kind of amazed that Bergmann ended up in the 4th spot instead of Williams, but I assume that is because he is seen as being in there instead of Simontacchi.

I do like the matchup though. It isn't like the D'Backs are rolling out their ace tonight, so I am keeping fingers crossed. (Of course those may be in my pockets to keep warm at the game. Hopefully, the boys will give me a reason to clap alot.)

Those are home jerseys.  The away jerseys don't resemble the Nats unis very much.

Interesting.  The Nats have the exact same lineup as last night.  Hopefully we can get to the point where this happens more often.

I thought they would do that too.  Jerome Williams is pitching tommorrow.  Bergmann has always come across as the Nationals biggest project picher.  He strikes out a lot of batters and only walks half as many.  That gives him potential to become a solid starter - possibly better than other teams' #4 or #5 pitcher.  But he's given up a lot of HR's and ER's.  Let's hope he gets off to a good start...

Rightfully so with the way they are pitching.  Bergmann is a disaster.
