Whats up with Chris Marrero?
« Topic Start: August 10, 2007, 04:43:55 PM »
Hey everyone -my first post!

So I have a question about the Nats best offensive prospect- Marrero.

What is wrong with him?  After being named the Minor Leagues' hottest prospect a few weeks ago, Marrero has tanked.  He has been missing games and his batting average has plummeted.  Does anyone know what is going on with him and whether or not it is something that we should be be worried about affecting his status as one of our best Minor Leaguers?  Is he injured?  I hope this is a minor problem and not something that will affect him or his career in the long run...  Or am I (hopefully!) just being alarmist?

Thanks

I haven't heard anything...but he's probably just going through a slump.  All players do.

Being an alarmist. Marrero is doing just fine.  He's still hitting .272 despite the slump.  He hit 2 homers in a game a few weeks ago.

Haven't heard anything about an injury or him missing that many games.

I think its as Sens said, probably just a slump.

I watched him against the Blue Rocks a little over a week ago.  He went 1-4 but he made some good contact but it just went straight to an outfielder or infielder.

He'll come around.

Yeah, he hit a rough patch where he got blanked for about 4 games in a row. But then he picked back up. His sample is so small, that it is kind of hard to base much on those numbers. I am sure with the success he had, pitchers were starting to throw around him, and the impatience of a young hitter is going to kick in. He will need to learn to keep the OBP higher by taking more walks. But for now, he has been trying to impress with the bat.

Last night he had a walk, a double, and a strikeout. His leadoff walk started the rally in the 9th, in which the P-Nats came back to score 3 runs.

hey thanks y'all!

I had heard something about a recurring hamstring problem (on Nationals Farm Authority?) so I was just a little concerned... good to hear that I'm overthinking it though!  ;)

If you think Marrero's a cause for concern, just take a look at Justin Maxwell's numbers. :|
