Cisco Killing the Flip Camera
« Topic Start: April 13, 2011, 04:09:50 PM »
As part of its plan to get out of the consumer market, Cisco announced yesterday that it will no longer market the Flip video camera, which it purchased just two years ago:

A prevailing thought is that the emergence of smarts phone did in the single-use Flip:

How about a lack features such as still pictures and optical zoom? Cisco sucks, their video chat machines are stupid.

we have a flip, the kids love using it to make their own movies, but it's not a replacement for a camcorder.

The flip isn't single use, is it?

That's what I thought at first but I think he means "single use" as in "it only does one thing" whereas a smartphone is an all-in-one device that can record video, browse the web, etc.

It's great for taking videos of the baby for grandparents, the current version has pretty good image stabilization, it's incredibly small, and best of all, using it doesn't drain my cell battery- if I'm out walking with my baby that's a huge consideration.

I bought a random Chinese brand HD camcorder a few years ago that's still better than a flip, it's Aiptek.
