Anyone have any thoughts on George Dickel No. 12?  I picked up a bottle based on good reviews for an Independence Day celebration this weekend but I may have to try some tonight.

Remember, flavors in each shot vary so it may take some sampling before you have a statistically significant result.

I don't know anything about any stuff that doesn't have rum/brandy on the label.

Hope you're thirsty.  30 is a good sample size

Not beer, but any Gin drinkers here?

I used to drink Tanqueray and tonic, and it was fine.

Going to London next year...would like to start studying...

Suggestions?

Had a navy strength something or other a couple weeks ago. First taste was a punch in the face. Then it was very good after that. I'm pretty much starting to like everything. Might be spreading myself too thin

Wasn't gin originally Dutch?

Sometime along the way, predictability and nuanced flavors became the thing, and is there any more limited range of flavors than the typical gin and tonic?

But, like everything else in recent decades, there seem to be quite a few variations popping up that diverge from the mainstream.  Not just gins, but tonics.  I bought a bottle of Watershed Gin at Catoctin Creek distillery in Purcellville, and since then I've been noticing the boutique products popping up around.  This gin is made from the tailings (leftovers) of Catoctin's rye whiskey, a way to salvage product that would otherwise be waste.

There are unusual tonics out there for the tasting, too.  I'd say try to go beyond the major labels and find the unusual, you might find something surprising and good.

Hard to believe the Dutch could produce anything but whores and venereal disease

They simply house them; I'm pretty sure most were produced in places like Minsk.

It was; the original name for the product was Genever (from the juniper berries used to flavour it).

A new distillery just opened in NE, Joseph magnus. Let's see what I remember from the tour.

Guy found a hundred year old bottle of his great grandfathers whiskey in the attic. Tasted it with some experts/distillers, not hipsters. Agreed it was really good. Tried to recreate it. Found something at buffalo trace that was close.  They finished it in sherry barrels. Are distilling their own now.

It was pretty good. Different. Very sweet port wine flavor. Made kind of a big deal about their detective work that led them to believe sherry casks were used. If this is an accurate recreation, they they are idiots cuz the port/sherry is obvious.I've had scotch finished in sherry casks and it's not obvious.

Will have to try it again. Not in a hurry to pay $92 for a bottle

I can't say that I have the slightest desire to ever set foot in that benighted place.
