People told me same thing about Petrino. Before he went ultra narcissistic and hired his mistress, things went well.

We'll see in a few years. Anything can happen.
Hopefully he works out better for you guys. Would be nice to see someone take down Bama/LSU in the conference.

My little "po dunk", "poor", "hillbilly" state just took the head coach of the Back-to-Back-to-Back champions of the glorious Big 10.

Woo Pig Sooie

The big teams in the B1g have been really down. Most people assume Beilema left because he knew he couldn't top what he had already done.

He is a good coach, but I don't really get this move for him. Love the sob story, as if any SEC school is "poor" or "po dunk". All those schools lace coaches and players with insane cash.

I think he left because he had maximized Wisconsin and now Urban Meyer had moved in down the road and all of a sudden Michigan State and Michigan were looking very good as the conference as a whole looked to dip with the new additions. The inability to pay his assistants competitive salaries and not having SEC level facilities just helped out. At Arkansas he'll have a heavy financial war chest, better recruiting grounds, and can slip into a National Championship with one loss.

I'm excited for the future.

Interested to see if his staff is more Big 10 or SEC flavored. Bret Bielema, to me at least, seems to epitomize everything Big 10. Don't think he'll turn his back on what has worked at Wisconsin.

So Urban Meyer,  Michigan and Michigan State are scary,  but Saban,  LSU,  and Auburn are...?  And that's just the sec west

The SEC is a huge turn up in competition, but he is inheriting a situation with massive potential. Bobby Petrino showed in his time here that Arkansas could easily be in the conversation as an elite team. Beat LSU twice in his four years, though he wasn't able to cross Alabama. Getting Arkansas to #3 in 2011 is crazy, and that was just year 4.

Arkansas puts Beliema in a situation where he has the resources to compete. First off, he keeps mentioning assistant salaries. He was capped at $300,000 at Wisconsin (that's very low) and had huge turnover as coaches kept moving on to higher paying positions. At Arkansas we already pay $500,000 to coordinators and $200-275,000 to position coaches, and I expect that number to be bumped up. The $40 million athletic facilities (which will be finished likely by kickoff next season) will from day one be one of the best facilities in the SEC and obviously in the nation. Heck, it may be the best. The recruiting territory is better at Arkansas than in Wisconsin. Petrino, whose weakness was recruiting, continued the Arkansas tradition of keeping instate guys, hitting the DFW metro area, east Oklahoma, and getting a few kids out of other SEC states. Bret Bielema has hit Florida hard and now will be in a better position to continue that trend.

In the end, it's the SEC. It is more cut throat than anyone else and Bielema even talked down about it last offseason, but if you're a best you want to be a part of it. Bret Bielema, who approaches Arkansas in September, wanted to be part of the best. The SEC West each year is a going to be a bar fight with the survivor going to the SEC Championship and the winner of that gets an invite to the SEC Invitational. Soon enough with the playoff system the SEC will be prepared to put multiple teams in every year.

The best want to play the best. Bret Bielema said it himself, he was ready to be in the "big league". Arkansas will give him every possible tool to win a national championship, and now its his challenge to build a program that can take on those cold blooded killers in Tuscaloosa and Baton Rouge while fighting off the guys in Auburn, Oxford, Starkville, College Station, and in the SEC East.

Nice article in The Post about San Jose State's visit to the Mall in September.   They'll be facing Bowling Green in the Military Bowl.

So did Rich Rodriquez when he went to Michigan.   So did Saban when he went everywhere he went.   Hold on Smithian.    He may not be who you think he is.

Don't forget Bobby Ross.  Everywhere he went was where he'd always wanted to be.

I don't know how long OSU is on probation but when it's over it will go back to being business as usual in the OSU plus the rest of that pathetic conference.

I won't lie...

I had to wipe away a tear watching General Ray Odierno hugging a sobbing Trent Steelman at the end of the game.

That football game was amazing. It was just what football is supposed to be. Heart broken for Army and so happy for Navy. The world is a better place for men like Trent Steelman who play in that game.

Well written Smithian   ....   As they walked off, the General wiped away a tear as well.    CSM gave him a hug too.   One of the announcers quoted someone as saying,  "  ...  and football is the easiest thing they do."
