That was the term we used last night leaving the game. And the pinch hitting of Kearns to start an inning is like smothering the comatose patient with a pillow.

I agree with you on Stammen. He made mistakes, but he wasn't walking people. He stayed after the batters and pitched to the defense. He made a bad pitch to Zambrano. And when he did make his mistakes, you could tell he was pissed about it.

He's not great by any stretch, but that outing with its inconsistency is precisely the kind of outing you expect to see from a rookie pitcher who lacks experience. Young pitchers only learn by throwing strikes.
