How reliable is UZR?

I saw Bernie from his rookie season until he retired. He rarely made acrobatic catches because he postioned himself well. He got to the ball, made the catch, and never made a fuss. Not a powerful arm...just about average, but never out of position. Something like Denard Span if Span always hit .300 with 25 homers (or better).

Defensively Span is much better than Bernie Williams ever was. His bat isn't in the same league but they are worlds apart defensively if I'm reading the metrics correctly. I'm a newb in that regards so if I'm incorrect, I do appologize.

his numbers were dragged down by his later years but he was never rated as anything more than an average defensive CF

If Goodwin turns out like Williams that would be incredible. The dude belongs in the Hall of Very Good.

That would be awesome. Having another outfielder that can bat .280+ and hit around 20 homers with a high OBP would be so solid.

I'd call it the Hall of Tino, Paulie, and Jorge. No individual Hall of Fame, but put them together and it meant four World Series wins in five years...including a sweep of the Almighty Boston/Milwauke/Atlanta Braves. In fact, six consectutive wins against the Barfs.

John Rocker. Where are you now?

It just seems silly because Ray is on there at 97, and I sincerely doubt that Robbie Ray is a better prospect that Goodwin.  I highly doubt Ray would have cracked the top 100 if he hadn't been involved in the Fister trade.  Ray probably wouldn't even have been ranked higher than Goodwin in the Nats organization.  He'd probably be in the 5-6 range if he was still in the organization.

Is MLB's list even considered one of the top ones? I would look as Baseball America, Keith Law and John Sickels WAYYYYYY before MLB.

I'd not BA, but I'd take Mayo over Law on prospects

Jim Callis moved over from BA so it's getting better. I'd add Jason Parks at Baseball Prospectus as ahead of MLB as well.

ray probably gets a boost from the being closer to a call up.  There's serious talk about Ray being in the mix for #5 - #7 rotation slot. Goodwin I don't think gets a shot this year.

Goodwin hitting about .212 as of last game. Solid good-field, no-hit. In AA and AAA. Hood doing well in AA. Might learning to hit.

His OBP is up to .372 and he's starting to hit after a slow start.

He's hitting .300 with a .444 OBP now and is 6 for 16 with 5 walks against lefties.  He has a ten game hitting streak.

OBP at .362, impressive for a .230 hitter.

Maybe he's learning part of how to hit. Of course, this is the point when I always suggest that folks too young to remember the 1950s teams take a look at Eddie Yost:  http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/y/yosted01.shtml

Finished above .400 in OBP eight times in 18 seasons; led the AL in walks six times; a solid right-handed line-drive hitter in a ball-park that measured about 400 feet on the LF line.

He's hit his first triple-A home run!

Against a position player who throws in the 60s...   :hysterical:

Yup, so slow the pitches just now got to the batter.
