Another terrible loss by our low payroll ballclub

yup, and plenty more to come in 2011 if they don't up the budget for the field manager

I can't help but imagine what would have happened if they sent Nyjer home on that fly ball in the 1st inning.

The LOB hall of Shame.

You cannot win if you don't score.

Bernadina (6)
Zimmerman (4)
Morgan (2)
Kennedy (2)

*Marquis (3) omitted because his is a pitcher.

Only with the Nats do the fans actually applaud performances by starters who throw 5 IP and walk 4 guys with 1 K, allow 8 baserunners in 5 innings (1.60 WHIP). Just goes to show you how low the bar of expectation is after what MLB and the Lerners did to this team.

Were you not applauding Lannan and his 1.50 WHIP yesterday? I sure seem to remember you doing that.

There is a difference between a 1.50 WHIP that is because of 4 walks and 4 hits and one that has 7 hits and 1 walk. The first is unsustainable while the 2nd one is unlucky. Since Lannan has come back, he has a sustainable 3.09 ERA because his WHIP is 1.20, BABIP is .310, FIP is 3.11, His K rate doubled from the first half (2.9 K/9 to 5.8 K/9), Walk rate was cut in half (4.2 to 1.9).

depends on whether or not you believe in luck (8 baserunners, 5 innings, but only 1 run)

He got lucky by only allowing one run. Could have been much worse. Fielding was brutal. Offense lacked clutch hitting entirely.

The only consolation was being in it until the end. We could have tied it or won at nearly any time.

Gotcha, so its lucky when another pitcher does it, but its old hat when Lannan pulls it off. Ok.

Where did I say that? I'm assuming that you are arguing about whether Lannan's start yesterday was better than Halladay's start today. I'd argue it was close. Lannan had a better K rate, BB rate, WHIP. Halladay's 7 inning's pitched probably gives him the edge, but Halladay faced a crappy lineup while Lannan faced a decent lineup. Anyways it's a dumb argument because arguing over 1 start sample sizes isn't productive.

Lannan had a decent outing because he did the things he could control well (K's, BB's, HR, GB) and limited the damage. Marquis had a 1/4 K/BB rate. That is embarrasing. When Lannan was "lucky" the past 2 years, he wasn't walking more guys than strike outs.

well, Marquis lowered his ERA, if that matters. (which is doesn't).
