The Sens play four in Richmond at the end of the month.

I see you're from VA so maybe that's a doable drive?

Harrisburg is probably the same distance or closer for many of us than Richmond is.

Davey says Rendon might be a September callup per Adam Berry twitter.

Little known fact: My butt has a better stadium than Potomac, but the team plays like crap.

If they call him up in September, I'm thinking it may be to showcase him for a trade this offseason.  I'm not really sure what else they would gain from it - he's not going to play every day if we're in the midst of a fight for the NL East.

How do you showcase a guy while not playing him?

Ha.  Good point.  I don't know.  But I don't get why else they would bring him up.  It's not like he'll be that great a contributor off the bench as a rookie who hasn't seen much above A ball.  It's hard enough for much more seasoned players to be part time players and pinch hitters.

It makes a lot more sense to leave him in the minors to play everyday.

Madison Mallards, WI > Pfitzner (Potomac)

The Mallards are a wood bat summer league.

Rendon goes 1/4 with a single in his AA debut. Also turned 2 DPs defensively at 3B.

I do find myself wondering what if he stays healthy and is tearing it up next year but we really have no spot for him, what kind of superstar (non rental) we could trade him for.

Another good point - maybe it makes sense to bring him up then just to sit on the bench and go through the experience of a pennant race rather than showcasing him for trade.

Put him at 3B to give RZim a day off now and then.

Something like how Lombardozzi was used last season I would imagine.

Yeah, give him 31 AB's and let everyone say ( me included) that he should be in "Cuse for the year.

Well, a month of MLB service time does not amount to too much if you plan on bringing him up in June or later next year.  the trickier thing would be if you planned on bringing him up in May or earlier.  30 days service time would tack onto 142 or more next year and give him a full season allowing him to be just above 6 years service time in after 2018 rather than 2019.

One thing the team has shown a willingness to do is to call top prospects up who are going to be super 2s (JZ, Storen, Harper).  I don't think the team would fear him being a super two, so I don't think this would delay a call up to August if he is ready and needed sooner.

My guess is that this would be a "go for it" kind of move.  If they think he can help, maybe even rest a vet, then I think they may do it.

The year you do plan on bringing him up, it just pushes back the time frame by a month. Given his bat and pedigree, I think they will plan on starting him that year, so you get an extra month of starts from a player not intended to have that kind of playing time, in exchange for some pinch hits and an occasional start- the trade off doesn't seem worth it to me

They did not show much concern about Desi, Espinosa and Lombo when they decided to start all three in the majors the year after a fall debut.  It might not be optimum in terms of long run structure, but giving Rendon a call up  is consistent with how they manage the roster.

Sure it's possible. He out ran the SS or 2B to the bag and took the feed to turn the DP.

I doubt they for saw any of those three having the potential to create the salary crunch down the road that rendon has.

Yeah, look at how expensive Hunter Pence has gotten as a super-two.  He's going to end up costing like $37 million total before free agency, including $14 million next year.

You gotta be more careful with straight hitters who are going to rack up counting stats. I don't think arbitration takes defense into account much.

Whereas a guy like Espinosa is probably Kelly Johnson-like? And Kelly Johnson is "only" going to make about $16 million from his team control years.
