Tim Redding gives up 12 ER in 1.1 IP
« Topic Start: April 17, 2007, 11:36:13 PM »
I was looking over AAA Columbus' box scores over the last few games and noticed this startling stat from Monday's game (4/16):
Tim Redding 1.1 IP 10 H 12 R 12 ER 2 BB 0 K 0 HR.  He gave up 8 runs in the 1st inning and 4 runs in the 2nd inning.   :)

Harrisburg?  Hell, ship his butt to the Vermont Lake Monsters.  This guy will never see the light of MLB play again.

What part of stupid do Stearns and McCatty have to be, to leave any pitcher in for that many runs? So I guess 8 runs in the first inning wasn't enough of clue that their pitcher didn't have it? When a starter gives up 3 runs, the manager should be concerned, when he gives up a 4th, he should be getting someone warmed up in the bullpen, and if his pitcher gives up a 5, he should be making a mound visit and seriously considering changing pitchers. Leaving anyone in for 12 runs, even if Bacsic gave up a double to let in the last 2, is ridiculous. IMO John Stearns should be ashamed of himself.

Yeah, you gotta wonder if there was some dynamic at work besides just wanted to squeeze a few innings out of a starter.  Did he think utter humiliation was just the prescription for Reading's psyche?  I hope there's more to it than what it seems on the surface.
