Nix's best case is a 4th OF who can only play against righties. I'd see high on him this year.

there's always the option of cutting stairs and moving Morse back to left to free up a spot for Marrero, using Nix as the 4th OF.  That would probably entail moving either Nix or Ankiel.

marrero now 3-for-3, walk, rbi ... average up to .304.

i'm watching the game, all legit hits.

Any of them for extra bases? B/c that's my biggest concern (last I checked, he's slugging less than ~.440?)

Okay so apparently prospects read these. So this kind of made me think differently now when I see a 'guest' viewing these.

Right.   When posting stuff about a player, I try to think if what I am posting is fair enough that I would be willing to say it to his face.  You don't have to resort to the "player x is GARBAGE" types of posts to make your point.

Interesting point of view. I try to do that also but usually just get too pissed.

No one is perfect.  We all get angry from time to time    , but it's best to return to sanity as soon as possible.    :halo:

No reason he can't contend for a starting spot assuming we strike out this offseason with Pujols and Prince. At the very least he will be a solid bench bat.

I'm sure it has been asked, but any chance whatsoever he could someday play a game here and there in LF? Just as a benchie?

Marrero is 2-4, 2 RBI, HR.
Stairs is 0-1, K, strands 2 men.

I don't think they'll bring him up until he's going to play every day.  He'll be here in September.

It would be smarter to wait until we have an everyday spot. He doesn't gain anything by riding the bench. It's funny in 2008 I remember predicting we would see Marrero as a 2011 September call-up

--------
Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs rained out Monday so this is a good opportunity to take a pause and check out first baseman Chris Marrero as he continues to swing a hot bat.

Marrero is batting .305 through 91 games, with 20 doubles, nine homers and 49 RBI. He has hit 44 homers in the last two and a half seasons and increased his average from .284 in 2009, to .294 and now at .305...

Kerr misses the more interesting thing than the slight average creep.  He has his highest OBP since rookie league this year, .373, and he has kept his K% below 20% the past 2 years.

For continued fun, this guy had these numbers his first full season in AAA.  He was about 10 months younger and a lefty, but it was in Oklahoma City, in a hitter's league and park.

PA     BA    OBP    SLG   K  BB   HR
Marrero   391   .305  .373   .439  65 37     9
Comp      508   .304  .364   .457  73 39    12

Comp developed into a pretty good hitter.  Others have picked up on the similarity of the numbers offensively before.

First base is the only position he's played. Move Morse back to left and go from there.
You know I would be afraid to move Morse and change anything . If it ain't broke don't fix it. I don't know if there is any logic or rational to my thinking but why take the chance. Also what do we do with LaRoche? And Harper should not be in the equation.Too early.

Morse to RF, Werth to CF (or make the trade for CF and move Werth to LF).  I think Morse was playing better in RF last year than he did in LF this year.  I could be wrong.

Nevertheless, we need another bat.  Marrero would be a good fit.

Is there a reason we can't put Marrero in LF? He played in highschool.

Either way. He's hitting .300/.376/.435 Call him up. Play him at first and Morse in LF

He was tried in the OF and apparently failed miserably, so I don't think its an option.

you ever see him play at Potomac, he's a big tall lumbering guy, not much speed.

At the very least, if he doesn't have a future as a starter, we should call him up as a bench guy. He'd be better than some of the guys here.

He's hitting well. Hard tyo displace Morse at 1B, even if you are Adam LaRoche. Harder still if you are The Kid. Maybe OF? Can he run?

Ah. Hmmm. Morse, LaRoche. Marrero. Only one 1B position.
