Texas fan throws Angels homerun back

Pearman's heave landed in the front row, just short of the field, but a fellow Rangers fan picked up the ball and tossed it on the field to complete the fan-to-fan relay.

Pearman was later named the Progressive Fan of the Game and interviewed on television by Fox Sports Southwest.

"I threw it back but I couldn't quite get it there," said Pearman, who is from Waxahachie, Texas.

Pearman did not walk away empty-handed. The Rangers rewarded her with, among other things, an official Major League Baseball from the "good guys," her beloved Texas Rangers.

Just thought this was interesting given the varying opinions on throwing the ball back.

I think it's a Cubs thing, but I did like our one fan who threw back the HR Strasburg gave up.

do the Lerners pay for baseballs or does MLB?  IF they do play, is there a good secondary market for baseballs that are slightly used?  A fan might not give up a Jeter homer, but if it were a J-Max foul, do you think the Lerners would have someone go into the stands and say, "I'll give you 50 cents for that ball, as well as the right to purchase a Preston Wilson jersey at 30% off?"

Towards the end of last season they had a Robert Fick game used signed jersey for $35.  Had my wife not been with me at the time I would have bought it for my Wall-of-Shame.

I sort of think its cool. Not like, hey look at me I disrespect our pitcher! I think of it more in a way that the opposing team doesn't deserve it. They don't deserve to get any runs off us.

I'd be stupid to do that though. I mean I'd like to get a foul ball. Why would I waste a homerun ball that is much harder to get.

Cubs fans also throw garbage on the field when they don't like an ump's call or an opposing player they particularly don't like (e.g. A.J. Przynski) hits a game altering home run in the top of the ninth inning. I don't see that type of behavior encouraged at other parks.

I used to think throwing the opposing team's homeruns back was cool but now I have matured. I now intend to catch it, get the pitcher who gave up the HR to sign it, and than give it to my girlfriend who has never had a ball. (Granted, she is Brazilian). The next one, assuming it ever comes, goes to a nearby kid.

The Rangers are much more fan friendly than the Lerners, when I was there last summer they had dollar dogs and discount beers in the later innings.  With a winning team they don't even have to do that stuff to bring in the fans.

If I catch an opposing HR, either I'm throwing it back or giving it to a kid next to me or an opposing fan if they're pleasant.
