7 balls in 5 innings is amazing for Lannan. He has been absolutely on fire.

42 pitches (35 strikes) through 5 for John

He's dominating. I think he'll be the first Nat to throw a no-hitter.

He's a good if not great pitcher. You don't have to blow everyone away to be a stud pitcher.
Last year was not a fluke like most media morons said it was.

According to fangraphs, Jordan Zimmermann is by far the most valuable pitcher on the Nats.

Take that however you want.

I don't know about that, but he's definitely a solid pitcher.

According to Fangraphs, Lannan has been only worth half a win better than Joel Hanrahan. Does anyone seriously think the difference between them is 5 runs over replacement.

Very similar games.
I don't see the fascination with Ks. They are nice to see, but they aren't necessary. It's good to have when you're in deep trouble, but if you never let yourself get in trouble, you don't need it in order to succeed.

Some of us were writing him off before this season. Saying he was a 4 or 5 starter in the future. He's a solid #2 IMO. Strasburg/Lannan/Zimmermann front end rotation will be very scary.

why is he throwing such hittable pitches when he is ahead of the batters?

0-2 count double and a 1-2 count double.

K's are important because they give you an out with a guarantee that no runners will move up on the out. That's a huge deal. If you can promise a defense that they will make an out with no base runners advancing, they'll take it every single time.

I wanted Lannan to bury every pitch in that inning until he got to Blanks. Bard was freaking up there.

No, Lannan was missing his spots, Bard was asking for them down.

yep, he made some terrible pitches in that inning. The double to Venable on 0-2 was disappointing. John hasn't thrown his curve much today. That would have been a good situation to bring it out and bury it in the dirt.

Losing a home series to the Padres is REALLY embarrassing.

I don't if that's says more about the Nationals or the Padres.
