Looked to me like Dunn thought it up.   He had the biggest grin of the three :)

it's a normal prank, lots of times the bench just ignores the rookie when he hits a big bomb.

When I was waiting for the bus to go to Pentagon City to catch Metrorail to the match this afternoon, there was a chap at the stop wearing a Phillies cap and a blue T-shirt reading: NEW YORK MESS...BACK TO BACK COLLAPSE, 2007 AND 2008...a harbinger perhaps?

The Nats have had fun with the Mess in the late going in recent years....

Whenever I see a Phillies fan I think of Aqualung. Maybe Ian Anderson visited Philly in the late 60's.

I think it looks like he's using a 9 iron.

I like his passion. What I don't like is his recent performances. Show why you belong in the rotation and you will get your spot.

I'm becoming more and more convinced Olsen's problem is 99% attitude. Watching him in the dugout on his off days all season long, before this ever happened, the dude just seems like one of the unhappiest guys alive. Sure, he's always hanging out and talking with the Lannan/Stammen/AAAA non-Hispanic starting pitching club, but he's seemed like the angriest, most emotionless player in the dugout. I'm starting to wonder if thus his problem is he just hasn't cared, got lazy, and then obliterated. Today, he's pissed off and realized he does have to work for it, and look what we get. I'll be curious to see his performance going forward.

What? I think Olsen cares more than anyone. Sure acts that way, at least.

He's always ready to pick a fight if someone messes with his teammates.

Olsen does give off that serial killer vibe, but I don't think that has affected his pitching all that much.

I should have elaborated. Started out planning to come to a point, then got carried away. I simply meant he doesn't seem happy to be on the team this year. As I made sure to point out, he's obviously close with the other SPers he groups with. But I've watched him dozens of nights in the dugout, standing at the railing, and he always seems pissed off and acts like he's not thrilled to be here. I thought that long before his recent comments, but those comments sure sound like someone not happy he's on this team. He's obviously close with guys in the clubhouse as you point out, so whether it's FO, managers/coaches or simply the record, he's just struck me as someone who isn't happy to be here this year.

And thats not just Scott Olsen. I never noticed that the past couple of years. This year, it's every game. Hell, maybe he just quit smoking and that explains it. Who knows.

It is Olsen's second consecutive season where he has been hurt, not pitching as much or as well as he expects, and now he is in the pen and questioning if he even has a job next year. I'd imagine he's disappointed with how the team as done as well. Not terribly surprising he doesn't look happy.

To some extent I'd even extend the same excuse to Morgan.

I'm starting to side with Morgan. The whole damn world is on his case. Other players get to decide if they play winter ball, Nyjer should get to choose too. He spent last season rehabbing, and I know that's no picnic. If people let him cool off , I think he will settle down.

I'm not blaming Morgan anymore. Riggleman is the problem. He lacks the will or the authority to discipline anyone. You cannot be accountable to vague, undefined rules.

That said Olsen has demonstrated a lot more maturity than Morgan.

'His bat is too valuable to stay at catcher' is the dumbest statement I've ever read.

+1.  A catcher is a catcher.  If he handles a pitching staff and hits, that's even better.

I really don't think that Riggleman should be manager next year. Some people, Zorn, Riggleman, are great supporting players, but not meant to run the show. I would have been happy to see McLaren finish out the year, or even Listach.

Morgan is 30 years old. Eventually you should know better than to be a jackass.

Coaches shouldn't have to be the one to tell you to act like a professional.

You've never just reached a breaking point? I've never hit anyone of course, but I have blown up at them before. Or blown up at someone else because the culprit is not someone I can confront.

Not only that... if you can stick at C, you have even more value as a good hitter because good hitting catchers, are so hard to find.

Does that mean I have to stop being a jackass in five months? :(

Time to purchase an official jackass countdown clock, I guess.

Nah. Your attitude doesn't hurt my enjoyment of the team. :)
