That show is great. I really liked this episode on the white sturgeon: http://animal.discovery.com/fish/river-monsters/white-sturgeon/
What are some good fly shops to check out?
There's always Harry Murray's joint in Edinburg Va, but it's quite a drive. Best to combine it with a trout or smallmouth prospecting trip.
There are a few shortnose sturgeon in the Potomac, but they're exceptionally rare. If there are any atlantic sturgeon left (get up to 12' long) they are most likely laying deep in the vicinity of Fletcher's Boat House. There are atlantic sturgeon known to be in the James River, so beware newbie catfishermen.....(Image removed from quote.)Atlantic sturgeon caught in the Potomac around 1900. http://www.jayflemingphotography.com/anadramous-fish-restoration
Snappy bow tie you're wearing. Is that your son you're holding?
I'm still in the early episodes. Currently I am on the alligator gar.(Image removed from quote.)
Recent record Muskie caught on the Potomac River-- although the fisherman doesn't look just 12-years old... http://www.tbd.com/articles/2011/05/muskie-fish-caught-in-potomac-river-60574.html(Image removed from quote.)
headed up to North East PA this weekend for a two-day shot at trophy smallmouth bass on Lake Erie. The task is complicated by a bar / restaurant just across the street from our hotel in Ripley NY. Seasickness is a genuine risk, Erie is big water.
haha I was about to say that Erie is in western Pa, but I realized that's the town name. What the h?

Don't let the bell ring twenty nine times...though I guess that was Lake Superior
By J. Freedom du Lac, Published: May 17 Juan Duran has quite the “Frankenfish” tale to tell, and it begins with a Kinky Beaver lure and a giant northern snakehead out on the Occoquan River in Virginia. It ends — well, who knows where, as things have become murky for the man who caught the enormous snakehead on the water by Woodbridge.
People eat those?
World record snakehead caught in Potomac, but eaten before being properly certified.http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/angler-may-have-broken-world-record-with-snakehead-caught-in-occoquan-river/2012/05/17/gIQAcBD6WU_story.html?hpid=z4(Image removed from quote.)
Read that online this morning. That thing scares the hell out of me. It's a damn air breather too.
Wait, you're a Vietnam vet, right? You've probably eaten these things without knowing it.
