In need of some advice from you all

Hey friends,

I have a question for you all.

I am contemplating coming over to the states at some stage this year, and I'm thinking of trying to get work and hang around for a year or so.

How hard is it to get work in the DC area? I have a degree in journalism but it doesn't have to be in that, I just wanted to come over, work a day job and go to nats games at night.

Any suggestions as to what I should do, and anyone wanna take in this poor young Aussie kid who hasn't experienced the life of as an American?

I know that you can just go to New Zealand and get pick up agricultural work and bum around. I also know of spouses of people in the US on educational visas that are forbidden from doing any sort of job whatsoever. I'm thinking it will be a tall order.

You have to go through a couple of applications for the required visas and work permits, but yes you can.

Its the same in most places around the world, kind of stinks when there is high unemployment in certain areas and foreigners can take jobs from citizens, but people like myself would be willing to do pretty crappy jobs to stay afloat while we travel.

We have a free trade agreement with Australia. An expedited visa called an E3 is available.

Be prepared to pay more for groceries and have elevators close quickly. Americans are an impatient breed.

It's a lot easier from citizens of certain countries. An Aussie should have no problem coming over on a one year visa with a work permit.

A lot of internationals come to the DC area from May to October to work as lifeguards. They hook them up real nice with a place to stay for the duration. You should look to see if you can work that out.

They are a few meat pies here but generally a nag to find and not as good. I end up making my own. The bacon will throw you for a loop too.
