Sweet, they also got a 7 foot stiff to be their 4th string center.

Another expiring contract.  Getting rid of Crawford is a plus.

This move, coupled with potentially being rid of Ariza's contract next offseason (player option, why would he stay?)

$7.7 million option, for a guy averaging 7.9 ppg 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists- I somehow see him staying

No it's not.  Crawford was barely making $1 million this year and won't make that much more next season either.  This only freed up room to sign another bum in free agency.  If they were trying to create cap room, they would have never traded for Nene, Ariza, and Okafor the last couple of years.

Leonsis and Grunfeld are completely inept.

First year not being a starter in a while for him.  He's produced whenever he's started and been a contributor on an NBA championship team.  He's only 27.  I can't see him being happy to sit behind Webster for another year.  With a weak FA class, the best SF on the market will probably be Stephen Jackson, I can see him opting out and getting a pretty decent deal.  He was an 11-12 and 5 guy as a starter and plays great D.

There is no way Ariza leaves $7 million when he isn't anywhere close to worth it. Also, Webster will be a free agent after the season.

Stephen Jackson is making over $10 million this year.  Ariza is a legit starter at SF, that's worth $7m in the NBA.

Crawford doesn't make the team better when he's on the court.  Team was 5-28 when he was getting minutes including some starts.  Wall came back, essentially took his minutes, and they're 10-9 (9-5 in games with Wall/Beal/Nene playing).  They're a better team without Crawford and now they have one less person complaining that he's not getting minutes or numbers.

What on earth?  Maybe the improvement was BECAUSE of John Wall's return and Wall looking like a legit PG?  You can't fault Crawford for the team sucking it up.  Crawford isn't a great player but he would have been a serviceable sixth man who can play in the NBA once you get a good team built.  It was stupid to trade for a man who will never play for the team and a seven foot stiff.

There is nothing positive about this trade.  They didn't clear any real cap room.  They didn't get any good/decent players in return.  They got nothing.  You get rid of players with large contracts like Nene, Ariza, and Okafor; not young players with small contracts who have room for improvement.

They cleared over $2 mil in cap space for next season. I don't think Crawford is awful, but he is a momentum killer. He is the guy who shoots terrible shots when there's plenty of time on the shot clock late in the 4th when his team has a slim lead. He's also a terrible defender. Not much value there.

At least the Caps had a really good regular season a few years ago.  The Zards haven't even had that.

Crawford was talked up as a building block by Ernie and Ted.  Now he's traded for nothing.  It's not cap space since they will have no cap space, anyway.  It's nothing.

at least the Crawford trade wasn't as bad as the Thomas robinson Sac-Hou swap from the King's perspective.

A healthy Wizards team this year has a .526 winning percentage, good enough for the 7th spot in the East.  They've got a legitimate starting 5, but could use an upgrade or two.  They've got 4-5 good options on the bench.  They need to admit the Vesely mistake and move on.  They need to hope Ariza opts out of his final year since the FA market is so bad this season.  Then they need to look at moving Okafor, or letting him walk, after next season as they'll have qualifying offers to make to Wall, Seraphin and Booker along with picking up options on Beal and Singleton.  The 14-15 season is the one to watch.  If Wall and Beal keep progressing, and Nene stays solid, they'll have a lot of cap room heading into that season to upgrade the SF and PF/C spots if needed while still having a good bench.

It's more room away from the luxury tax threshold next year, and an extra 3.2 million (Crawford's qualifying offer) the following season when they'll likely be around 18 million under the cap.  That, and getting rid of Crawford, are good moves.

And he's bad in the locker room.  This is the guy who was complaining on Twitter last week about his numbers and minutes going down despite the team finally winning.  Boston is banking on Garnett being able to force him to grow up.

This is a good team, probably a 5-6 seed playoff team in the East, when healthy.

That's a pretty low bar for 'good team'

You are again relying on old and injury prone Nene to stay healthy.  And this team is playing well now in large part thanks to old guys like Okafor and soon to be free agents like Webster.  If you don't re-sign Okafor, who will rebound?  Who plays SF if not Webster?  Booker, Seraphin, and Vesely were all first round busts.  Crawford was a bust but he was better than those 3.

I'm hoping we get James Anderson, who will probably be a free agent. Such an underrated player. He's a slasher with a great shot.

Seraphin is not a bust.  He's a guy who started playing basketball much later in life than most who make the NBA and he's improved every season (3 and 3, 8 and 5, 10 and 5).  Booker was the 23rd overall pick.  Most years the late first round, and even the late lottery, are a crapshoot.  Booker was playing well until the foot injury late last year.  Vesely is a bust, he has no discernible basketball skill despite his athleticism.

Okafor is signed for another year, that's not an issue.  Webster is having a great season for him, but is still no more than a solid starter.  I'd like to see Webster back if he keeps it up for the rest of the season.  If he leaves, and Ariza decides not to exercise his option, you've got a starting SF right there.

This team is 11-9 with Wall healthy, a .550 winning percentage.  They're 10-5, a .667 winning percentage, in games where Wall, Beal and Nene all three play.  That's extremely good for a core that includes a 3rd year PG coming back from a serious knee injury, a 19 year old rookie, and a veteran post player who missed a chunk of games with a foot injury.

Oh, and as far as the "injury prone" label for Nene, the end of last year/beginning of this year is his first real injury since 07-08.

They're in good shape for the first time in years, and this time it's without the mental cases like Arenas, Young, Blatche, and McGee.  Getting rid of Crawford is a big positive to keep that being the case.  The first interview Doc Rivers did concerning the Crawford trade was about how they have to get him to buy into the team concept since that's been a problem for him so far.  Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but their locker room is far more suited to making someone get in line than the Wizards right now.

Would be an interesting pickup with a good bit of potential.  If his play can translate beyond his usual 10-11 minutes a night, he could be a really good pickup.  He does seem to have similar skills to Webster.

Last two games have been really nice.   Hopefully they've shaken the ugliness of the 20th.
