This is the real test.

was this 8-game streak a fluke against bad teams?

or are the Nats actually really turning a corner?

we'll see, once they start playing Good Teams.
The Marlins are pretty good, and the D'Backs have been one of the MLB's hottest teams since the ASB.

yeah i have a tough time believing an 8-game win streak is a fluke ... too many good things have to happen for that kinda luck to appear ... i think it's just we were playing some good baseball.  the braves are sending out a great pitcher tonight, but we counter with one of our own.
look at how bad the starting pitching was for us during that stretch. the fact that we won all of those games is a major fluke.

The offense is just on fire right now like they were during April. They will go back to their doldrums soon enough most likely. Where has this offense been for the last several months where we haven't scored dick?

lannan was solid in his start ... mock and martin were fine in saturday/sunday outings.

imo, an 8-game win streak is way too long for a fluke.

I think it actually highlights how improved the bullpen is right now.  They've bailed out the starters more than a couple times lately.  That wouldn't have happened in  April, May or June.  That takes a toll on the whole team.  The improved defense and bullpen have been a catalyst for the rest of the areas improving, as has been detailed several different places lately.  It's not just one thing or another, they all feed off each other.

the rest of the season will determine whether it was a fluke or not. can they sustain this success?

If you remember last year we had a couple similar streaks to this one.

-In the beginning of August in '08 right after we traded for EB we won 4 in a row and 6 of 7. We then lost 12 games in a row.

-Then at the end of August we won 7 in a row and then finished off the season 6-17 over the last 23 games.

Every team in baseball, even the crappy ones, have a few nice winning streaks every season just because the sheer amount of games played.

nobody is saying they are going to continue playing this well ... they aren't going to win every game ... but i think they are playing better under riggleman and will have a better record in the 2nd half than in the first.

if they can manage to get 65+ wins that would be awesome considering where this team was at the AS break.

Ignore this post, due its cherry picking of statistics, even though it actually demonstrates some knowledge of the concept of probability

I didn't cherry pick anything. This season is taking shape just like last season although every season since '05 has been indistinguishable.

We get off to a horrible first half every year, play decent baseball for a little while after the All Star Break and then go back in the tank over the last 5-6 weeks.

Especially when you consider that after we won the first two or three the odds were stacked against us and continued to mount with each successive win.  :lmao:
