Lets face it we are a .500 team!! The hitters are awesome. the Starting rotation is getting it done. Not only does the bullpen need to put it together, but Manny and his staff needs to up their game too!!! The crowds will return if the Nats return!!

The hitters can hit!

Clearly you've never seen Alex Cintron play.

5-16. I'm not good at math, but I am sure the percentages don't add up to .500.

The Nats scoring doesn't match their hitting.

QFT. We are 11 out of 16 in the NL in runs scored (94). However we are 5th in BA (.266), 4th in OBP (.356), and 6th in HRs (23). We are also 3rd in the league in walks (96).

The fact that we lead the league in strikeouts has to have some meaning.

yeah, Florida isn't far behind though and they have a winning record.

I can't believe we only have 2 sacrifice flies this year in 21 games. that speaks volumes. this team doesn't know how to manufacture runs very well.

We don't hit into a lot of DPs (11th in the league in GIDPs). We just generally don't get the big hits to bust games open. We score runs but not enough. Still, I find it hard to bang on our hitters because if the pitching had done the job we would be a .500 team.

neither Kearns or Willingham starting? interesting. Harris getting some action? Flores up to the 6 spot

Looks like Acta wanted to shake things up.

I actually like us striking out more often. It sure is hell better than hitting into a DP.

Now I will say that striking out with a man on 3rd and less than two outs is awful.

But by striking out that means we are forcing the pitcher to throw at least three pitches per at bat.

I think the hitting approach has been great this year and will only improve with more time working with Eckstein.

Tony Gwynn has Steven Strasburg throwing 120 pitches a game. Shairon Martis has yet to reach 90 in a game! Manny needs to let theses kids pitch.
Rememeber he get's two extra days off per week.

True but wouldn't he get tired just as fast? I mean, how does not doing something build stamina?

I'd say it's about 50/50 since we can either win or lose.   :?

i think he's saying we have the potential to be that.  if we didn't have 5 blown saves or whatever, we'd have a better record.

He'd have more recovery time, that's all.  So sometimes they're willing to extend a little further...plus generally bullpens are weaker, maybe not in our case, but in general.

[Rizzo has to dump some of these guys like NJ right now while they are still healthy and producing well. Get us pitching you fool!

OK ....we dump NJ and get some relievers. Who the hell is going to play first. Young? Belliard? Eldred.? or a freakin committee? The offense is doing great. Who was available that is doing well NOW ? Last year we could have had Kyle Lohse and Tomterp was screaming for us to pick him up. Martinez at 4-5 mil.? Give me some names that could be better than the crap we have in the 'pen that you would sign off on if it was your job that was on the line..

What GM isn't going to demand the world for pitching help? Hell we gave up a player for a guy that was DFA'd in the NL (we would of had first shot at the WW). We should have gone after mid range pitchers when the price was dropping in the winter. But Kasten said we weren't going to go after pitching.
