Take Holliday Of The Wish List
« Topic Start: November 10, 2008, 02:50:26 PM »
SI.com's Jon Hayman is reporting the A's and the Rockies have made a deal to get Holliday.  Details to come.

Heard it on XM-175.

Eh. I prefer a longer contract with Dunn that giving up the farm for a year of Holliday. Anyone know if Dunn is type A or type B?

Thought maybe the Elias Sports Bureau might be as dumb as the ESPN commentators and other people on this board who think he is a mediocre or somehow terrible player.

Yeah, but home runs and RBI's are two of major offensive stats.

I can't imagine he's anything but a type A.

The Rockies will receive outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, left-handed pitcher Greg Smith and closer Huston Street in return, though they may not keep Street. One source said Monday that the Rockies are prepared to turn around and trade him -- though to which team he wasn't sure.

Not a bad deal for the Rockies. If the A's don't lock up Holliday to an extension it's a dumb trade on their part.

Should have kept him and cut Pete Orr. Sandwich pick would have been nice. Stupid fish

You have to offer at least arbitration to receive compensation.

Pretty good trade for the Rockies. If the A's don't re-sign him, then it's a worthless trade, because they'll get picks when they already had good prospects.

Street was struggling all year long and was no longer their closer. Not surprised he was involved. Gonzalez is pretty good and Smith played ok this past year.

Street had a 3.73 ERA last year, not all that bad, although not nearly as good as the previous 3 years. He's only 24. Carlos' Gonzalez doesn't look all that special? Its going to be weird going to Rockies games without Holliday in left, thats for sure. Oh yeah, this is a Nats forum :-p

yeah, but all he had in Cincy to get on in front of him was Brandon Phillips, not many rbi opportunities there.
