Quote
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has approved zoning changes that will pave the way for a 5,500-seat minor league baseball stadium and mixed-use development at routes 7 and 28.

The board’s Tuesday decision, which allows the rezoning of 60.27 acres of a larger 314-acre parcel -- from industrial park to mixed-use business -- came over a year after the county rejected NA Dulles Real Estate Investor’s initial plans for almost 4 million square feet of office space, over 1,300 residential units and about half a million square feet of retail space at the site.

The special exception allows for up to eight buildings with approximately 900,000 square feet of commercial office and 74,000 square feet of space for restaurants, banks, and financial institutions.

As conditions of the approval, the developer must provide transportation upgrades including the addition of two bus shelters along Pacific Boulevard, a private shuttle for employees at the new office buildings and a four-lane divided section on Pacific Boulevard with sidewalks and a multi-purpose trail.

The stadium will be available to local schools and organizations when it is not being used by the team and baseball games will not start before 7 p.m. on weekdays.

The baseball stadium is expected to deliver in spring 2011.

sad that the P-Nats will move out of Woodbridge but they deserve a better stadium.

that's still not that far away though.

Never thought about the P-Nats moving up country.   Since you brought it up, I kinda like the idea.     I live to the west and would love to watch the minor league team of our Nats closer to my home.    However I think there are already plans to bring an indy team in.    I think Brooks Robinson is involved.

I don't believe this is being built for Silber and his P-Nats.  It might be for an indy league team.

The Giants farm team in Norwich (near New London, Groton, and the casinos) is moving.  Conn Defenders?

However, the Giants contract with the Defenders runs out in 2010-- the same time as the Nats contract with Harrisburg. There could be an opportunity here for the Nationals.

I love having the Nats in Harrisburg as Angelos feels that all of South Central PA should belong to him, and it totally pisses him off. That being said, AA games in Loudon would be nice, except getting to them on weekdays would be murder.

I hope this happens, it is only a matter of time before they were going to move.  The stadium would be right down the street from the place I am moving into in a few weeks.

(Brooks) Robinson greeted local residents, signed autographs and posed for pictures before stepping to the podium to endorse the Virginia Investment Partners' (VIP) bid to bring baseball to Loudoun. Robinson, along with fellow Hall of Famer and Washington Senator Harmon Killebrew, baseball executives John Horshok and Peter Kirk and Dr. Tom Songster, who worked with the International Special Olympics, make up the Kincora Baseball Advisory Board, which has been an active proponent in the Kincora Stadium project. Robinson is a member of a group that currently owns three of the eight Atlantic League teams.

The Atlantic League is an independent minor league that is unaffiliated with major league ballclubs and lacks standard level classification. But Robinson did not hesitate to suggest the league's merit and quality of play.

This piece came from the Post online (Loudoun County).    This meet and greet occurred before the BOS vote.     Kincora Stadium is the project TT mentions as the new stadium in Loudoun (at 28 and 7).

Baseball fans?

I'd prefer this be a Nationals affiliate, but residing in Herndon I'm stoked no matter the team that ends up there.

It's moderately popular in a couple of unique situations and in smaller communities.  It's about as popular as a A or AA team would be in most communities.

Brooks was quoted as saying it's like AA pitching and AAA hitting.    Sounds like lots of runs.     He also said ... well, let me post the quote ...

"I can tell you, in baseball terms, it's like AA pitching and AAA hitting," he said. "It's better than you get at Potomac, better than you get in Bowie, Maryland, better than Cal Ripken Stadium, sometimes it's better than the Nationals or the Orioles."

whatever. I have no interest in watching a bunch of bums and retreads that aren't good enough for the Bigs play against each other.

I'd rather watch a young team like the P-Nats and see future Major Leaguers. They are having a ridiculous 2nd half. 17-9, 3.5 cushion in 1st place.

Well, at least in the league that's similar to this league that has a team here, it's closer to A pitching and high A hitting.  It's a moderately, fan friendly entertaining brand of baseball and if you're going to have a good time you won't be disappointed, but don't expect players be be super good.  Kinda like that minor league conversation we had a few weeks back.  Go and have a good time, don't expect too much in level of play.

Personally, I coach High School aged kids and enjoy watching from that level all the way to MLB. I don't really view former college players who just missed the cut for the minor leagues as bums. I guess it's about perspective.
