I usually have no problems with decent tires + manual transmission, but there's times when it's just too deep and my bumper turns into a plow, which is what it sounds like is going to happen.  But, no one else came into work today, so I have to be here.

Just heard a huge "BOING!" from outside. I'm guessing it was snow falling in a drift onto something metal. Eesh.

CWG - 6:35 PM update

Quote
Contrary to what you might hear on the TV news - this is not ending earlier than we expected. We continue to expect 5-10 inches N & W and 4-8" most other places before this wraps up between 8 and 11 from southwest to northeast. Some areas N &W are already at or over 5" mark. Western Fairfax and Loudoun counties are really getting hammered. Radar shows the precipitation field starting to pivot with the snow wrapping around from the north as the offshore coastal low intensifies due to the interaction with the vigorous upper level disturbance (responsible for the thunder snow). This will keep the snow going for a while.

It seems that no one has shown up for the 7pm shift at work.  My department is completely empty.  So I've got the most seniority and I'm in charge.  I think I might send myself home early.

Suddenly the storm seems to be sitting still and spinning instead of moving out on the radar.  Looking like 2-3 more hours at least.

I was just watching CBS news, they said that in a stretch from Rockville to Gaithersburg snow is falling at a rate of 4" per hour.

Live in Manassas.  Pretty good poker player.  Quit my previous full time job just because I couldn't stand it.  I work a couple of contract jobs that pay well and have homeland security tax exemptions.  Got bored and decided to get a M.Ed. and try something new in the educational technology (specifically online) area.  Should have the M.Ed. in December (15 months total) with a herd of 6 figure jobs waiting for people to become qualified.

Power flickered on and off and is now formally off.

Just made another run with the snowblower.  6"+ and still snowing.  No power problems which is amazing to me.  We're usually one of the first to go down.

I forgot my Mazda 3 had AWD.  I don't know how it kept going forward, but she did.  Chunks of snow and ice clunking on the undercarriage the whole way.  Some roads in the development were only plowed one way through intersections, so I had to just speed up and plow through 1' snow berms, but wouldn't quit on me

She deserves a good washing when the weather clears, she earned it :D

I have shoveled a few times, probably have five or six inches in Gaithersburg, and it's still snowing hard. Traffic was a f#$%ing nightmare. My wife left work six miles from here at 4:30. She's not home yet.
