The run scoring double play is probably second to the injury causing HBP with bases loaded as worst way to score.
Gabe Kapler once had a season ending injury running hard and tripping over 2d on a close-to-the-fence home run. The guy who hit it had to wait behind him while the trainer came out, took Kapler off the field, and Kapler's replacement was allowed to finish running the rest of the way.  An incredibly obscure rule that either Kapler or the hitter knew.

Heck the umpires said that they had never seen the rule enforced.

Tony Graffanino hit the homer, Alejandro Machado pinch ran and Gabe Kapler ruptured his Achilles' tendon.

 (1) If an accident to a runner is such as to prevent him from proceeding to a base to which he is entitled, as on a home run hit out of the playing field . . . a substitute runner shall be permitted to complete the play."

I'm willing to meet you halfway and settle at loss of posting privileges for the Mets series. However, if a game gets rained out and is not rescheduled until later in the season, thus technically not ending the series, you're out of commission until such time when the game and series officially concludes.

No thanks.  I agreed to the terms and intend to stick to my word.  This will be my last post until after the game next Sunday.

Let's Go Nats!

Nationals are now 17-14...last season it took over a month longer - till 11th June - to notch win# 17 (alongside 42 losses).

Maybe they're overachieving...maybe they're doing it with mirrors...maybe opponents aren't necessarily bringing their 'A' game...but I'm still rather enjoying it.

The past 9 games they've gone up against the two best pitching staffs in the division and won 5 games.  They split with Josh Johnson and Volstad, they beat Tim Hudson, they beat Ricky Nolasco.  The beat every pitcher they faced in that stretch except Tommy Hanson and they put up 6 runs in that game.  And if  you go back to the last game in Chicago, beat Ryan Dempster too.  That's a pretty good stretch vs. some really tough pitching.

Looks like I missed some great baseball while I was out of town this weekend getting my scuba certification. Another gem by Livo and a 4-2 homestand, bring on the Mets.

Wait till the divisional grind is over and the Nats can pound some crappy out of division teams. The NL East is stacked.
