Puking Phillies fan pleads guilty, will probably only get probation.

They don't say why his companion was being ejected from the park. This happened at an away game in Philadelphia:
Man pleads guilty to vomiting on fans

Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA -- A 21-year-old New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to intentionally vomiting on a man and his 11-year-old daughter in the stands during a Philadelphia Phillies game.  Matthew Clemmens of Cherry Hill, N.J., pleaded guilty to simple assault and other charges Tuesday.  Police say Clemmens stuck his fingers down his throat and vomited on Easton police Captain Michael Vangelo and his daughter during an April 14 Phillies-Nationals game after his companion was ejected from the park. Sentencing is set for July 30.  Assistant District Attorney Patrick Doyle says sentencing guidelines call for Clemmens to get probation. He says the Vangelo family is satisfied by the plea.  Clemmens' attorney was not immediately available following the hearing.

Salty was just the first to email - he went along with Powerboater, doesn't have a plan, I don't think.

I'll wait a few days to hear back and then I'll send a paper letter to Mark Lerner.

What address are you mailing the letter to?

Victim was a police captain and his daughter.  This happened at an away game in Philadelphia.  A local source:

Cherry Hill man charged in sickening display at ballpark

Inquirer Staff Report

A Cherry Hill man has been arrested after triggering a disturbance when he deliberately vomited on the 11-year-old daughter of police officer during a Phillies Game at Citizens Bank Park, police said.  Philadelphia Police said Matthew R. Clemmens, 21, of the unit block of Hassemer Avenue, was charged with simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment, disorderly conduct and related offenses.  Clemmens was held on $36,000 bail on three complaints containing 15 counts of the different offenses.  Police said the incident started during Wednesday night's Phillies game against the Nationals.

Clemmens and a friend were sitting behind Easton Police Capt. Michael Vangelo and his two daughters, officials said.  The pair were rowdy - cursing, spitting and spilling beer, police said. When Vangelo complained to an usher, Clemmens' friend was escorted out the stadium, police said. That did not stop Clemmens, police said. He kept it up and then announced he was going to throw up.  Vangelo told police he turned to see Clemmens with his fingers down his throat before vomiting on the 11-year-old. Clemmens then punched Vangelo in the side of the head, prompting two witnesses, including an Easton police lieutenant, to jump in to restrain Clemmens, officials said.  One of the witnesses punched Clemmens in the face before he gave up the struggle, police said.  Vangelo told the Daily News he restrained himself from hitting Clemmens because he feared getting arrested.  "I kept thinking, 'If I get arrested, my kids will be alone here," the police captain said.

Vangelo told the Daily News on Thursday that Clemmens and a pal began harassing his family almost as soon as they reached their seats in section 130 at the ballpark.

Save his picture and post it at every park in MLB
Ban him - no need to ever let him see live baseball again.

Baseball, like wearing spandex, is a privilege, not a right.

The guy spent at least one night in jail.
The 11-year-old got a baseball from the dugout:

http://cherryhill.injersey.com/2010/04/17/uncle-no-foul-intent-by-fan-accused-of-intentionally-vomiting-on-girl-11/

[Clemmens] was held in a city jail ...the girl's father, 48-year-old Michael Vangelo, called Clemmens' actions "the most vile, disgusting thing I've ever seen."  The police captain said he did not retaliate out of concern for his children. "What would happen to them if I was arrested?" he said.  He said several fans subdued Clemmens, who received a black eye in the process. A fan who caught a ball thrown from the dugout handed it to Vangelo's 11-year-old.  "We were driving home and she was crying, but she held on to that ball," he said. "She slept with it that night and took it to school the next day."

At Clemmens' home in the first block of Hassemer Avenue, a sign directed reporters to Richard Harker, a Philadelphia attorney. Harker declined to comment.

There is now a "Matthew Clemmens is a DOUCHE" Facebook page:

His defense should've been that he couldn't help it since he had just caught a glimpse of Debbi Taylor. Probably would've been acquitted.

Phils Offer Goodwill Gesture to Alleged Vomit Victims
Vangelo says he accepts, doesn't blame team

Updated 4:01 PM EDT, Sun, Apr 18, 2010
http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/sports/Phils-Offer-Goodwill-Gesture-to-Alleged-Vomit-Victims-91420509.html

Vangelo told the Inquirer that the Phillies have invited the family to another game that will include watching batting practice from the field and buying them dinner.  "I accepted, and I don't blame the organization for this incident," Vangelo told the Inquirer. "The blame rests solely with Mr. [Matthew] Clemmens and his friend."

Clemmens, 21, of Cherry Hill, N.J., was arrested and charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment, stalking and recklessly endangering another person, corruption of minors and other charges. He posted bail on Friday. His next court date is scheduled for May 25.

Vangelo said that from the moment his family took their seats Wednesday, a group of unruly men starting disturbing anyone near them. Vangelo and his older daughter asked the men to stop, but that seemed to just cause more trouble, he said. He said he had ushers eject the unruly fans from the game, and that seemed to calm things down -- until another fan got involved.

That fan -- identified by police as Clemmens -- was sitting with another, unrelated group of fans who were also disciplined for acting out when he allegedly did what Vangelo describes as the "most disgusting thing" he's ever seen.  Clemmens positioned himself behind the 11-year-old's chair, stuck his fingers down his throat and vomited on the girl and her father, police said. Clemmens then began wailing on Vangelo after he pushed him away from the girl -- hitting the off-duty officer in the head and neck, causing his ear to bleed, police said.  Surrounding fans jumped in to help subdue Clemmens before he was arrested.

*****************************************************
Since the game was the night of Apr 14, Clemmens spent Wed night in jail, plus all day Thursday, and got out on bail at 3:30 AM on Friday.

What needs to be done is someone needs to blow up this picture to face size:

Post it online somewhere so everyone can print it off and wear it as a mask at the next game against the Phils just to piss this crap out of the Filth Fans. Maybe bring lunch sacks with "BARF BAG" printed on them too.

You could blow that up and posterize it in photoshop fairly easily.  The result would look quite good on a cardboard or plastic mask.  Not sure about the actual mask-producing part as I'm not familiar with that sort of thing.

They did it in DC at a college basketball game once. The Sports Bog has an article on why students did it and a great photo of the outcome. I'll try to find it.

I always worry about the glass barriers in the 400's at Nats Park.

A former colleague of mine fell out of the upper deck (35 feet) at the inaugural Rangers game in their new ballpark in Arlington.  The railings were a bit too low, but there may have been other factors involved.    :glug:

Thankfully she survived, and seems to have heeded my advice to give up her stadium diving days.  Many broken bones later.

Not exactly fan behavior, but funny/disgusting nonetheless.

It’s not exactly DC news, but Nats fans can collectively heckle under their breathe over the furry, green, and beer-bellied Phillies mascot for being sued by a 75-year woman for climbing through the stands and injuring her knees at a 2008 Reading Phillies minor league game, Philadelphia Daily News reports.

I've had experiences both the right and wrong way. Growing up as a Pirates fan, I went to Philly and even as a young boy, was yelled at and had things thrown at me for wearing my Pirates hat, even though my dad, who was right next to me, was wearing his Phillies hat. I have absolutely no respect for Phillies fans (other than my dad, which is why we were there in the first place).

I don't know if you will ever have the chance to come to Coors Field, but as a fan of visiting teams, I've had nothing but pleasant experiences there. Was at game 3 of the Nats trip there (a loss for us) and was at a Pirates game there last year (my favorite team before the Nats existed) when the Rockies lost. I had no problems at either. Rockies fans cheered for their team, I cheered for mine, I chatted baseball with some fans, and everyone had fun.

That's how it should be everywhere. Why those idiots in Philly can't comprehend that, I'll never know.

You must have encountered a different group of Philly fans than I did. Walking out of the home plate gate, I heard several dozen chanting "Let's Go Phillies" "Let's Go Eagles" and finally, the oh-so-lovely with children around, "Fu** the Nationals." You've got to give it to the most moronic phans in Baseball, 90% of whom can't even spell sabermetrics much less know what it means, they are a delusional bunch. On the other hand, and my preferred opinion, they were all probably so drunk they forgot where they were, that they were in an away park (Easy to do considering they held the majority by my estimation.) and were so ****ing wasted out of their minds figured a walk-off HR meant they won since it came in the bottom of the 9th. Regardless, this loss, such a devastating loss to top it off, didn't even seem to be enough to shut them up. It's like the age-old, "How many licks does it take to get the center of a tootsie-roll pop?" question. What does it take to shut Philly fans up? The world may never know.

The staff members I have talked to are genuinely afraid of these clowns. I watched them harass the hell out of the bartenders to violate the 2 beers per person rule, this one particular guy wouldn't budge, and they gave him no tip and stormed off.

Yeah, I know people who witnessed Phillies fans in the last series smoking in the stands (I have seen it on the concourse and gotten it squelched.) Evidently the fans doing it in the stands were not only brazen about it, but when the ushers tried to stop them, the section just taunted the ushers until they stopped trying and went away. That's pathetic. The idiots tossed at last night's game should have been handcuffed and tased if they didn't control their behavior, not allowed to get an entire section riled up to harrass the police escorting them out. Those punks should be treated the way they treat jerks in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. The should have been thrown in jail cell for the remainder of the weekend.

figured this thread could use a bump after last night's game

Going to repost a question from last night's thread since I'm locking it up:

...sort of like the 'Steeltown Sociopaths' at Verizon Centre (still the 'gold standard' - for want of a better term - in rotten fans for my money) in the first few post-lock-out seasons at Caps-Penguins matches, before the Caps started selling out regularly.

Just out of curiosity: where within Nats Park has all this Philly-fan aggro been taking place? Up in the neighbourhood of TBSITH (Infield Gallery level behind home plate) there have been lots of 'Let's Go Phillies' but nothing out-of-hand - so far anyway.
