As I have mentioned previously, we're in the process of getting info and meeting with companies on putting in a backyard pond. If anyone on the board has had any experience with this, I'd appreciate hearing from you, either here or via PM if desired. While I used to sell fish and plants for ponds at my garden center, we did not do pond installations. So far we've met with 2 different companies, and the difference between them is night and day. Thanks.

Truthfully, my parents had a rather complex backyard pond at their last house.  If you're really wanting info, I can put you in touch with one of them.

Plan on having lots of mosquitoes.  [Bzzzzzzzz.....bzzzzzzz.]

While koi are not a good mosquito larval control, goldfish, orfe and gambusia are great at keeping any skeeter larvae in their stomachs. Additionally, the pond will have a waterfall, so there shouldn't be any stagnant water. I use Dunks in places where water can pool during the summer already.

Well, you know, just like any other renovation.  One renovation leads to another and another and another.  If you're going to have a moat like that, you might as well convert the house to a Castle!  Of course if you upgrade to Castle, you have to have a drawbridge.

Forget the alligators, and upgrade to Dragons!

LOL. Actually the pond itself is a modest 7' by 10', with the stream about 6' in length. No koi; it's way too small. Some goldfish...shubunkins and sarassa comets is the plan once it's ready for fish. The completed pond and my initial plantings around the pond are now posted at the above site. Waiting for the water to clear; as it's rock-lined, it takes a while even when you rinse the rocks/gravel before using. Now my back is killing me from the planting; thank g-d I didn't do the pond myself.
