It does get tiring though when this excitement is expressed as nothing but endless complaints about the team when they do bad and endless caveats about how they still suck when they do good. We're 2-1 without our two best sluggers (Morse is out and Zimmerman has been mostly absent at the plate so far) and one of our starters couldn't get out of the fourth inning yet I've heard more whining than optimism.  :?

Boundless homerism is annoying too, but I can't say I've seen much of that so far.

It's really not that bad - just need to filter a little bit - everyone here is a bona fide die hard Nats fan, so it's all good

I don't think you're quite getting the spirit of the gameday threads - my understanding of them is that they're best seen as expressions of the WNFF fans collective id - no reason, little thought, mostly just emotion-filled tirades.  Which is why, when the offense is offensive for fully 22 out of 27 innings that have been played so far, you get a lot of death threats, whining, snap judgements, etc.

Outside of that - sure LaRoche has looked good for two games which seem to match his previous level of non-injured production.  Nevertheless, the guy is beginning his age-33 season and coming off a major injury.  No, he may not be as bad as he was last year, but it's going to take more than two games after a turrible game for me to say "Yup, pencil him in for 25HR, 100 RBI and a .480 SLG."

Trying to step up and fill the void? Gods forbid humor is utlized to laugh at the team's obvious shortcomings.
I don't really see how not condemning a player after one game is considered boundless homerism. But anyway perhaps I am just hearing the vocal minority and letting that affect my perception too greatly. I'll try to keep that in mind.

You've got to realize everyone that whines and complains, outside of a handful of exceptions, are joking.  A lot of us are disappointed the team didn't improve the offense but it is what it is at this point so buckle your seatbelts and enjoy the ride.

I am sure you'll settle in. Part of the trick is that a lot posts are deadpan or sarcastic humor that seems to infest the D.C. area.

If we can get LaRoche back to his 2005-2010 averages of 25HR and 87 RBIs, per dollar, he'll be better than Fielder.  And, yes, "per dollar" does matter.  See Jayson Werth.  If he were a veteran minimum player, putting up the numbers he does, we'd be singing his praises instead of wanting to burn him in effigy.

Of course, in the per dollar model, the dollars you don't spend on Player A, you spend on Player B and Player B is supposed to put up the really big numbers.  Of course, sometimes Player B is Jayson Werth.   :?

Gameday threads are different from regular threads. Gameday threads are like the twitter portion of WNFF, there's no real in-depth thought... it's just gut reaction, as if you were at a bar. So when someone does something bad, you're going to get gripes, when someone does something good, a lot of cheers. It's not really reflective of how we feel about that player on the team... just how they did in a individual situation.

Totally agree. This LaRoche is so good. Keep it up big guy. Hopefully that call doesn't hurt him mentally, somehow.

I can't think of anyone on this forum that isn't still excited about this season.

Personally I'm more amped up for 2014 when all the pieces come together.  (Assuming of course that Rizzo keeps his job so that we don't have to rebuild again.)

Funny.  If LaRoche is his normal self / average type of player, you wonder if they would exercise his $9MM option rather than give him the buy out.  It probably depends more on Morse in left, but if that is successful, you could have Rizzo's fantasy of 20+ HR pop at each corner, a 2 way catcher, and athletes, including Harper, up the middle.

If LaRoche is solid, why go look for another 1B?
