 5-1 groundouts to flyouts.  Hopefully he can leave this outting with some confidence.
2 more scoreless innings from him today and I'll be satisfied.

Dukes caught stealing.  Not a good start to his beastly 40-40 season.

edit: looks like he was picked off.

crap, our offense blows. 2 hits and no runs through 4 innings against N-Robertson.

Our starters just have not done much this Spring in terms of producing runs. Most of the time when we have scored a bunch of runs it was via the reserves.

Our starters aren't doing too hot.

Another bad inning for Bally, his shot at the rotation is going down the drain.

horrific inning. Gave up 6 hits and 4 runs that inning.

Final line: 4 IP 9 H 5 R 5 ER 1 BB 3 K.

It's a near certainty that he will start the year in 'Cuse. Nothing to be ashamed about. He's still young and just needs a little more work in the Minors.

I'm not sure about Balester, he has flashes of being solid, but nothing spectacular.  I can't imagine a long term role for him with this club right now.

meanwhile WMP and Kearns have 2 of our 3 hits today...

As I've said, Balester might do best as a reliever.

It's too early to put him in that role full-time but if things don't work out this year in Syracuse that may be an option down the road.

Yeah, I wouldn't rush it or anything, but they should keep it on the table.

I think people get teams get too set in the idea of keeping guys in starter roles.  We saw how the switched benefited the likes of Shell, Mock, and Hinckley last year.

Its spring time, let the guys who suck now, suck it up now.

Just send Bally to syracuse for a month and see how he does.

I forgot we have Wagner. He's locked in a heated battle with Kip Wells, Gary Glover, and Julian Tavarez

The reserves put up 2 runs, predictable.

WMP is hitting .292 :(

The better he hits, the bigger the bag of baseballs we'll get.

I still think Wily Mo can be a good hitter, though I realize that's an unpopular opinion around here.  The surgery he had revealed much greater damage than anyone believed to be the case, and was almost certainly the direct cause of his complete ineffectiveness last season.

Balester just loses stuff out of the stretch and can get singled to death. If he doesn't correct for that, he has no hope, period. Relievers have to pitch out of the stretch. He could be even worse.

balester was AWFUL today. another 4-5 pitches in the dirt, long counts, got singled to death once runners got on.

though his curveball was kinda nice. he dropped it in there for a strike 6-7 times real nicely

not a good start to his season? NEWSFLASH: THE SEASON STARTS APRIL 6TH @ FLORIDA.

Yeah, but if he does this bad against scrubs, he is going to be eaten alive by real major leaguers. That goes for the whole line-up too.

Dukes was trying to steal but the pitcher made a nice move and anticipated the steal real nicely and got Dukes caught in a rundown. Sucks for Dukes but really just unlucky. Not really concerned about Dukes. Kearns, however, looks GOOD. He's patient and hitting the ball a lot better.
