Lidge for Bourne straight up was such a stupid, stupid trade. He's far more of a Nook Logan Roger Bernadina than a Curtis Granderson.

Fixed. Ed Wade had a boner for Bourn and had to move Lidge.

OBP has freak-all to do with walk rate.  His walk rate is decent.  His BA has been low.

Actually, since BA+HBP percentage + BB/PA=OBP, that's not true.

Okay, not exactly, but you can't look at a guy's OBP and just assume they don't walk.

Matsui did a better job than the 2007 Biggio. And quite honesty maybe better than Biggio did for the last 5 years of his career.

Technically, FLop was our leadoff hitter last year 42 starts vs 40 for Guzman.

For some reason I thought Lopez was our 7th hitter or 8th hitter the whole time he was with us last season. Guzman actually did really well as our leadoff hitter (.337/.363/.448).

I REALLY don't remember Guzman batting third in ten games last season.

An Astros fan I know asked me what I knew about Michael Bourn since I was a fan of an NL East team.  I said, "let me think of something positive to say........well, he's fast."

Pence reminds me of our outfield, a lot of promis and ifs.

Pence already has done a lot more than all of our "promise" and "ifs" though.

Not to be all AZ on you, but not Dukes.

I'll take Dunn > Pence for 1200, Alex.

Dukes has hit 25 HR in a single season?

But Dunn isn't one of the "promises" (Milledge) or "ifs" (Dukes, Kearns).

Nope - you know exactly what you are getting from him. That's true.

Not yet...

However Pence has 42 HR in 1051 AB (while playing in a glorified softball park) while Dukes has 23 HR in 460 AB.

Dukes has better rate stats, yes, but Pence has played more; thus, he has made far greater contributions so far in his career.  If you compared VORP's, for instance, Pence's would trump that of Dukes.  That's really the true measure of accomplishment, so I'd say Pence has an edge there.

But I have little doubt that Dukes will eventually be a better contributor (insert typical "when healthy" provisos here).

Tomorrow's road trip to face the Mets for the 48th time this spring will feature Nick Johnson, Austin Kearns and Corey Patterson, but no Ryan Zimmerman. Also, in the kind of sneaky bit of maneuvering that happens in spring training, John Lannan will throw in a minor league game in Viera rather than facing the Mets. That duty will go to Sharon Martis. This will prevent the Mets from getting another look at Lannan before the season starts.

Yes! Martis finally gets a chance to prove himself by actually starting a game!

Yeah probably. Berkmann pre-knee injury for 1 million.

I don't know if I'll be able to stomach listening to all of this one on the radio.
